Hi Babsie I use Wings Modular to view my files (icon browser) and also have the My editor on my machine. The only thing that was changed is the Icon as the My editor is installed to be your default embroidery icon browser. The icon is a yellowblock with a blue W in it and underneath within the block the numbers 101010 but next to this Icon the "old" file name should appear if you view your files with details as this was not changed only the icon was. Your file names should be as it was before and you should be able to open them in any embroidery program like Wilcom - which I also do. Secondly when you change formats in My editor and want to save you need to select the format. You would say under the file tab - save as - then at the bottom it will ask for the file name which is the name you would give your design or keep as is and below that it will ask for save as type - press the down arrow on the right hand side and select your new format i.e. pes or jef or what the case might be and answer all subsequent questions. If you don't select it will save it in .ngs as this is the default type for My Editor.
what is written here is completely correct. After installation the pc thinks that "My editor" is the Main-important embroidery program and therefore the pc will autmatically open the program if you open/dubble click a .pes. If you would like to change that and make an other Embroidery program back the default=>Right click on a .pes, Go to OpenWith, then click on "Browse", go to c:\Program Files\ folder with "old embroidery program", Select here the filename.exe (this is the programfile where you start your old embrodery program). Do NOT FORGET to mark "Always use this selected program to open this kind of file !!!Then click on OK and you will see that your icons will change again.
Hope it is clear enough for you; if not don't mind to ask me for more details, afterall Computers are my job. Happy I can now help someone, instead of me asking all the questions :-)
Hi Babie, that is what I was trying to say but in much less words than you. You have put it brilliantly! I do hope she can have a try now that it is more understandable. Love Chris
Thanks Babie, I will copy all the info and give it a try before I give up and uninstall it. Thanks for everybody's help, will let you know how I fared with this.
Oh Babsie..don't panic. I have My Editor-I love it. Your NGS icons are still .pes format designs. Just send one to your emb machine and see! It took me a while to give up my 'red parrot', but I have so much fun with My Editor-changing colors, size, splitting, deleting parts of designs..haven't learned all there is yet. But if you open the program & 'browse' you will see all your deigns displayed as they will stitch out. It is just the Wings 'form of icon' to represent pes.
Hello awesome!
I have My Editor and I would like to know how to split the design to be used in my multipositional hoop. Can you please let me know.
Thanks in advance.
sorry I cannot help, but I bring it back to top for you, maye somebody else have got an idea. hugs Gerry
I googled .ngs and found a.o. navigation software and other useless things. Googled embroidery + ngs and found My Editor: http://www.wingsxp.com/index.php/... That saves default in ngs, but it says you can save in any format. Don't know why all your files were changed.
I don't know either. I only opened the one I wanted to be changed from NGS to PES and when I looked at the other files, they ALL were NGS. I feel sick.
As I can't save all my files to my external hard disk which is at home and I'm on vacation, I'm not going to download the program and try it out - too scared I'll have the same problem. But it looks so promising! This is what it claims:
my editor™
my editor™ is a Free, simple viewing and editing software with some innovative features and functions. It was mainly developed to provide the capability to view and modify supported embroidery files and then re-save them in any of the available embroidery file formats. It can be very helpful for any user who wants to make simple changes to his embroidery designs. It will help you view your designs with actual thread colors, make changes and add information in them. It also includes extra browsing and saving capabilities, as well as tools for better production and material management.
my editor features
•Open and edit .NGS files
•Open and Save to many different embroidery machine file formats easily
The My Editor program is part of the Wings system and therefore marks your designs as "w". They can be taken into the My Editor program and saved as any format that your machine requires, such as pes or hus or jef. You need to change the format before you save it or it will be saved as .NGS
I download it in PES and it changes it to NGS, I do nmot know the "MyvEditor " program and only want it off my computer and everything back to normal.
I see it's early morning over in Centurion, so I hope someone else on the same time line is awake and looking at Cute. Love Chris
I just downloaded a design just to see what format it will be saved in, and I downloaded in PES and it was saved in NGS format! I am able to open it with my Bernina Artista Editor, but would love to get things back to the way it was.
You should be able to change your format to PES when you slide your sidebar down and find the correct format in the change format box. Just a thought. Love Chris
That was what I was inferring too Martine, to save as a PES instead of the NGS. Love Chris
I did not say 'save as' as I downloaded in PES and before that was what it was saved in. I will try that but do not know if it will be better to uninstall it and loose what was saved in NGS?
