I only use poly thread in my two Brothers. I tried Sulky once and my machine hated it. Have some Floriani (got 24 spools with my machine) and mostly metro and use both without issues. The Floriani is nice thread and available to me locally but is much more expensive than the Metro (the colors are beautiful, never had any shredding issues - love it)>
I use some Isacord, but my dealer stopped carrying it. Isacord and Robison-Anton are top "name brand" threads, and very good thread. Floriani is a beautiful thread, with tremendous shine, but I find with my Janome 300E that some colors shred. I've heard others with this problem, and that Floriani will replace faulty spools, but I haven't contacted them yet. I have a beautiful fox-fur color that was horrible, shredded after every 50 stitches. I'm pretty sure Floriani is made by the same company that makes Fufu thread. My dealer is no longer carrying the Floriani thread either, just the R-A. I'm going to be trying the Metro and BFC stash threads soon. Metro has great prices, BFC good price, but the thread sounds like it would be better thread. I do animals with a lot of color shading, so I need a lot of choices in greys and brown/tans and golds. But your choice of thread also depends partially on your machine, what it likes. My Janome is generally not fussy, but I did have some problems with that Floriani spool. Before you invest in one of those 66 spool pack deals, try out one or two on your machine and see how it works for you. Best of luck, hugs, Marji
I bought from threadart when I started as that was the best deal I could find at the time (I also hadn't found this site yet so didn't know much about how many kinds of embroider thread there were or prices.) I have now just recently bought the 166 metro threads and haven't used much of this one yet. But my machine has no problem with either, and the colors from Metro are beautiful! I would definitely get metro again - and their prices are awesome!
Has anyone ever tried wooly nylon in their embroidery machine? I keep looking at my collection and thinking that would look really awesome. But I haven't tried it yet.
Just FYI, the wooly threads are used in the bobbin, and the embroidery is done backwards. I'm sure somebody knows a link to a tutorial about this, hugs, Marji
I started out with Sulky Viscose. I HATED it!! I thought it was supposed to be such a great thread. NOT! Not only did it break at every jump, it also shrunk and got very brittle and crunchy in the dryer. So I tossed that. Now I use a thread from EmbroideryPassion.com (DesignBySiCK thread), or Metro. Both work well. I would love to use cotton, but the price is a bit prohibitive. I've used just your regular old sewing thread, and it looks good, but makes lots of fuzzies in the machine.
I use Rayon on a cone, cotton, and Metro- no problems. I can't comment on Florini and Isacord.
Cotton seems to put off a lot of lint.. fuzzies... and my designer one does not like it... Metro on the other hand.... is GREAT !!!...Isacord, Maderia.. works good.. I like the shine of the Metro..
I use quite a few brands although recently tried a couple of spools of Florini which was not a good choice for me as my machine hates it and will break non stop. Tried everything even putting it in the freezer for a day or so...no luck now just put these colors on bobbins just to use it up. I've had my machine for about 6 years now and this was the only thread that my machine has disliked. Machines are like people....we don't everything that is put before us....lol. Hqave a great day!
It seems I am the only one using cotton. I love it. I have had problems with polyester, and believe it or not I have a condition that insists I not wear polyester! I get my cotton from connecting threads. I invested in all 86 colors and I am almost out of 4(just started a few months back. Here's the link. Have fun!
I bought some cotton but haven't used it yet from connecting threads.
I've used cotton before and it always sheds lint like crazy so I clean bobbin,
etc after each design. I think cotton is beautiful but I like the poly Metro also.
I like to do vintage ornaments and lace
in cotton.

That would be really unfortunate to love embroidery but not be able to use the threads. I'm glad to hear that you've found a working alternative. I would love to use it if it weren't so incredibly expensive.
My HVDII performed badly with QA thread. All the others do well. I now use a mix of Madeira, Metro, Marathon and La Sarta. The first three are well-known and sew beautifully. La Sarta was the cheapest embroidery thread supplied by Spotlight - Birch thread was the alternative and much dearer. La Sarta is what I could afford when I began Machine Embroidery. It also sews beautifully; I've used it on pj's and fleece jackets and it's wearing very well. It was heavily discounted last year and now seems to be discontinued.
I bought the Metro 66 spools bargain of basic colours last year and I am really enjoying using them. No problems whatever so far.
In fact, I use whatever colour thread I need at the time and once a design is sewn and the garment worn and washed there doesn't seem to be any difference between the mix of different threads used in any one design.

You may want to try the new polyester thread at BFC-Stash. It is suppose to be very good.
Their service is excellent.
See Link below.
I use rayon most of the time but do use various brands of polyester thread too.

Yes, the new BFC thread is a trilobal polyester, and comes in a huge amount of colors, for those who do designs with a lot of shading, like animals, flowers, etc.
i have many brands of thread, rayon & poly. some premium some not. my machine does not favor isacord & that was the bonus gift i got when i bought the machine.lol. i hate rayon but the machine is ok with it. but the more i sew the less picky the machine becomes..maybe because i'm learning to adjust the tension! good luck & try 'em all!
My machine is a Brother se-400 I have used Metro and Embroidery X (the latter I bought thru Amazon just to get some threads to have some on hand) and they both worked well for me, all the threads were polyester. I have never used Florini or Isacord but I have heard the term used " You get what you paid for " since I'm a newbie these two threads seem to work for what I do, and I don't sell my work so in other words " It's good enough for my family and friends"
Hope this helps...
I use Metro thread and I have only had a problem with one large cone...don't know why but it was "stretchy" and didn't sew well at all. Other than that...I have every color and have not had any other problem.
I use Isocord and have very good luck with it all the time. Metro is great too. Suzanne
Well I have a collection of different threads. I have quite a selection of Isacord and Isofil, some big cones of Maderia, some Brildor that I got from Ebay and without going to look quite a lot of other stuff. When I got my new machine earlier this year I was told to get rid of some cheap threads which I did (I gave them away) I am happy with my odd selection which sews out well
Most of my thread stock is Admelody (which is being discontinued), but I have some Coats & Clark, and some Gutterman. I'm not especially impressed with most of the Gutterman threads, but some do better than others. I've never had any trouble with the Coats & Clark at all... but its also the most expensive that I have available to me, locally. I haven't tried much rayon thread... mostly all poly.
