I had seen this before and decided it is far too fiddly for me, but thank you for posting for others to see.

I'll stick to using two sheets of fabric WSS criss-crossed on top of each other. I never have had a failure unless it is a poorly digitised design like Chris Pennifold recently came across.

When I'm finished stitching I cut the design out as closely as possible and save the outside pieces to stitch together later using water soluble thread, available from Shopper'sRule.com

I've done similar using a piece of strong fabric with an aperture - you use a lot less WSS!
