Just a quick update on my little Tidgy girl for all those wonderful Cuties who are praying for her return to health.

She started on her medication on Tuesday, as soon as I got home with it, it was lucky my own head spins weren't quite so bad at that stage or I would not have been able to go collect the tablets.

Anyway, I think she realised that her Mummy wasn't well because she was wonderful taking her tablet, twice a day, and didn't claw me to shreds.

So far she has only vomited once and I think that was because I hadn't given her something to eat straight afterwards, (i was so ill that morning I had to go back to bed immediately) :-(

She seems to be doing OK, though she is still sleeping most of the day and night and only gets off my bed to eat or use the litterbox.
The vet had said there probably would not be a marked improvement for maybe a month but she has come to play two nights in a row.
I don't get involved in her play though as I don't want to over excite her and risk any of the things the vet said could cause her immediate death.
She only plays for a minute or two, trying to catch the knots in the timber floor, and I worry the whole time.

After much research on the symptoms, diagnoses and treatment of Hyperthyroidism in cats, I have learnt that the tablets or gels are not a cure but a sustainment of life that needs to be given every day for the rest of their life.

The only cure is iodine radiation treatment, which would require her to go to the University for up to a week and then she would need to be isolated from the other animals for a further month. We would also have to limit our contact with her as well. But it is a total cure and she would be back to her old self and be able to live a normal life.

I have decided that she will have the radiation treatment as soon as she is strong enough, after all, I didn't settle for anything less than a cure for my cancer so does she deserve anything less?

I just took these photo's a few moments ago, they don't really show how tiny she is or how much weight she has lost, but they really capture her. :-))

I will give you all another update in a week or so.

Hugs and thanks to you all for your prayers and support, we'll just take things one day at a time.............

Bless you Meganne! Not many know what it is like to feel so deeply for our 4 footed friends. We have not even thought of adding up the medical bills for our last baby.(a standard poodle with allergies, then limphoma) She was a integral part of our family and deserved the same treatment as we would have.I could go on, and on, but it is so good to know that others feel the same compassion for living things.
Not a footnote, but I am also very pleased that you are on the mend!
Love & Hugs, Nadyne

the two of you have been in my prayers - thanks for the update - I am hoping the medicine works well and that the treatments in the future can also help. You take care of you - what a book you would have - if you ever decided to write it.

She is tiny but maybe after she gets used to the medication she will start eating again. A little play is a good sign. My neighbor had to had the iodine radiation treatment and that was about 12 years ago and she has done well since. I do remember they told her she couldn't be around any infants for a certain amount of time as it had to leach out of her body. So very glad for you that you also got your meds. Now you both can get better together.

Meganne that are good news to start in the week :o)
I can see on the pics how small she is but she seems to be a fighter like her mummy! Had such hard times so often in 30years with cats and I'm with you in my thought often during the day. Take care for yourself cause Tidgy needs you and your power...
Hugs, Bettina

Oh yes, I did start replying to everyone but other duties called me so I'm afraid I didn't get to answer too many.
My meds arrived around 3pm on Friday and I could feel the lifting of the withdrawals several hours later. I'm still a bit wonky and head-achy but I expect it will take a week for them to get fully into my system. Thanks for your prayers Vicki, hugs n roses, Meg
