Question? Do you ever get so disgusted with machine embroidery that you want to give it up? If so how long did it last before you changed your mind? I'm thinking maybe I need a new hobby. Or at least give it a rest for awhile. I'm sort of in a in between place and may just take a break.

Sometimes I just want to throw my machine through the windows when things just don't go the way plan. Being that I am more of a sewer, I do get a break. However; there will be ups and downs mind blogs and all but BEV when you feel like that just have a dance with you machine...Sometimes you have to tell them I demand better conduct out of you...ROFL ... FIESTA ;D *2U

It seems it is a common problem! I like to call it OVERLOAD!
Sometimes I have so many ideas swimming around in my head and never seem to tackle any...I'm not good at making decisions! LOL!
Take care and take that break!

That sounds like me, I can't make up my mind which project to start and end up doing nothing!

So true! :-(

I do that at times. Get all ready to embroider and can't decide on what to do so just put it aside and do something else. guess it's just normal. *4U

I have to take a break now and then. I got interesting in piecing quilts which gave me a diversion for a while. However, it comes in handy to do the quilting part of the quilt, especially since I can't afford to have them quilted professionally. I also find it rewarding to do the whole thing myself! I try to combind machine emb with the quilting. The machine was too expensive to let it sit! My real problem in retirement I've discovered too many things that I want to try!

I am cross with my Big Girl. I told her so yesterday and said I am not going to use her again. My yarn kept on breaking and nothing I do would make it better. So I cleaned her out, oild her well and put her cover on. Haven't touched her today!! That will teach her!!LOL. Anyway, I have a brilliant idea and will be embroidering from romorrow. Good luck. Take a break and get it of your chest. Love and hugs.

Yes!! Today!!!! I spent nearly 55 minutes on a design - babysitting it all the time - and when my hubby called me I turned my back for two minutes and the bobbin had got mussed up and it totally destroyed the design. 55 minutes, 25 colours and a VERY mussed up tote bag! I think I am going to mow the lawn instead!!!

The trouble with this is "IT'S A SINGER" I would go without an embroidery machine if I had to buy a Singer... excuse me for the coment but that is how I really feel....

You have the right to express yourself. Truth be told, if I knew what I was getting myself into, I would have made a better choice. Singers aren't what they used to be.

Hi Bev!
Sometimes, you just have to flip the 'off' switch and walk away from it for a while. My machine and work area is in the same room as my computer, so Fussy Futura sits over there and whispers to me, "Hello! I'm here!" LOL! And my mind yells back, "Not now, Fussy, I've got emails to write." I just recently finished a rag quilt project that included 18 designs of my own doing (it took all summer to create those designs). I keep saying that I need to clean up the mess from that one and start on the next one... but, I haven't gotten there yet. Just take a deep breath and relax for a bit... it'll be there when you get the urge to start up again. Good luck!

Bev, our horrid summer might have a lot to do with this.(108, GIVE ME A BREAK) My area so far has not gotten anything but a few drops. My roses are dead.Herbs are all gone.Yard looks as bad as straw.maybe you'll feel better if you go to the Houston Quilt show in Oct.

I also have a straw yard and very few flowers. Farmers Almanac says next year will be the same. If I can't make the quilt show a trip to the local hancock fabric will work just as well.

I go thru this with everything. Crafts, cooking, baking, hobbies, and etc. When I am crocheting or knitting I have two projects going at the same time...because other wise I get bored. Quit for awhile and give yourself a break. H&*

Yes, definitely yes. I feel this way with embroidery and quilting. I just put it away and do something, anything else for quite a while. Maybe just that particular project needs to go into a dark cupboard and start something else, have found that also helps !

I don't care what it is....you can overdo anything. When I get that way with the embroidery... I switch to something else. Right now, I've just finished 10 pillows for Christmas and sewn out 22 covers for Christmas bulbs.... I'm done with the emb. machine for a while. I'm sewing pearls on the ornament covers... I make jewelry also. When I get tired of the whole craft scene, I stop - read a good book, clean a closet, go shopping, watch an old movie, or just veg, and soon I'm back on track again.

Take a break and your ideas and then you will have a good mind to embroider again. This summer I hd this feeling and I closed my shop for 4weeks. Stitching customer-orders is often not very creative but something has to bring on the money ;o) If I would work in an office or a factory my job would be boring also at some times.
I often sorry that I have not the time to do all the ideas I have in my mind. I really would like to stitch more for my kids but the customer-stuff has priority...
Greetings, Bettina

I have far too many sewing 'repairs' to do to be inspired to sew, so I guess the answer is yes.

The only thing I never get tired of doing is digitising as it is a constant challenge and always holds my interest, so I think I prefer digitising to doing the actual embroidery.

Hi Bev, just take a break and then you will feel like doing embroidery again. I love doing embroidery and sewing. If it gets me down, I take a break of about an hour and then I get going again. Hugs Yvonne

Yep... like last week! Just spent 400 on repairs to my brother, get it home and it still clunks and then shreds the thread! And the dealer is a 6hour drive away! Not happy...
I am just so blessed that I have a Janome as well, so at least I have one machine I can use.
Usually when I get frustrated it is a machine issue. Time to do some spring cleaning..... lol..

I'm sure we all have times when nothing goes right, and times when we lack inspitation. However, I know that when I am away on holiday, my head is buzzing with ideas. Then, when I get home, I have so many other things I must do, when I eventually I get to my machine I've forgotten most of the ideas. So frustrating.
Several hobbies is good for your mental health!

Damn the missing edit button. That should say inspiration!

kttyhwk4 by kttyhwk4 02 Oct 2011

Sue take a small notebook or pad along on your holidays and write down your ideas and inspirations. You may never find the time to do them but at least you'll have a record of your thoughts.

spendlove by spendlove 02 Oct 2011

I try to do that - but I don't always understand what I have written when I get home!

I have had to take a break from it before and there are times that I am not inspired to work - but every once and awhile - I get an ispiration for something that I want to try or do and I am back on track - I hope that whatever it is - you don't totally leave the craft - you have way too much to offer and we have missed you around here. Think of all the designs that you have earned from Emblibrary - surely - there is something there - that you haven't stitched out and you wouldn't want all that work of submitting your idea's go to waste - now would you? If you are in a in between place - do take the break - come back new and with lots of ideas - then share them with us. Hehehe!

There is no way I'm giving it up. I just need a short break. I'm still collecting designs and waiting for my next idea. And of course I'll still be here on cute answering questions and giving out my free advice. lol now I'm going to quilt something.

A about 6 years ago I bought a Singer Futura embroidery machine because I had a Janome 8000 which was over 10yrs old. I was quiet happy with it although it was out dated but it still worked well but they had stopped making a certain part for it ,so once that blew -no machine.I got the Futura which turned out to be a rotten lemon & I refused to spend anything on the embroidery part which broke down after sewing a few items out every time it returned from the dealers.
4 years later I got my new machine,it might of been a lot longer except for an unexpected wind fall.

Alas! Another Futura owner!

bevintex by bevintex 02 Oct 2011

Do you have problems with your futura? I have one sitting in the corner that does not like to cooperate with me.

starlizard by starlizard 02 Oct 2011

Yep, I call mine 'Fussy' for a reason... LOL! The main problem I've had with it is the tension. Would you believe, that in order to do embroidery, I have to set the upper tension to one notch higher than the 'S'? The only thing that I truly dislike about it is that its so limited.

starlizard by starlizard 02 Oct 2011

gee... it cut me off... LOL!
As I was saying, the only thing I truly dislike about this Futura is that its so limited.

Oh I have bad days when machine throws little tantrums especially when I need it in a hurry.LOL
Best to walk away, do something else until you no
longer want to toss it out the window. Then it will
be okay to continue.

Don't feel bad Bev, we all get to feeling that way from time to time. If you feel that you have to do something, its no longer fun and this is something that should be fun. So take a week or longer off and you'll want to do it again. I've taken as much as a year off and when I get back into it, I'm so much more inspired. *4u and everyone else.

Hi Bev, take a bit of time off. One day soon, you will think of something you want to make for someone special. Then the thought of how happy it's going make that person will make you want to jump back into embroidery. Wanting to see that persons face when you give it to them, will make it exciting again.

I don't get disgusted just run down I have taken a break on sewing and embroidery but it only last a week or so. seems like I overwhelm my self and have to take a break. I will never give up my embroidery or sewing though but you can't let it take over your life, it needs to be a fun thing, not a have to do thing,
hope you feel better about it

Hey Bev, long time no see. If you are feeling like that maybe a break would do you good. I think if something is getting frustrating for you then backing off is a good plan. Maybe you will feel inspired again after a step back.

You are supposed to be having fun, if you are not then you need to stop and wait until you feel inspired again. Glad to hear from you though, I was getting worried, did you get my email.
Hugs.
