This is such a crazy question - but I AM a bit Crazy!

Would the Cutie CAT lovers please come out of the Closet? I know there is something about Cats and Quilts, and Cats and Sewing. I think there must be some kind of link between the personality of people who like to sew, and those who like to cuddle with cats... What do You think?

I simply adore cats!! They are special pets for special people, or wouldn't you say? I have always had cats, but since our last cat died two years ago, and we now live in a block of flats, where there is animal restrictions, we have not been able to replace her. I would love to smuggle a kitty in here just to cuddle with me and sit on top of my sewing/embroidery machines LOL Sympathies to Teri for losing her kitty and I hope your memories are as sweet as mine. Love, Susie.

Well, Jan.....I think everyone knows where I stand, huh? Can you tell by my digitizing??? We have 6 rescued kitties and also do trap/neuter and release and try to find homes for those that we can. We have feeding stations and houses with straw for the wayward outside that can't find homes...Love them all!!

You could be right! My cats love sewing as much as I do and sneak into the sewing room to cuddle with my machine! .....or sleep in the baskets of scraps and other fabrics!;>)

Kitties-gotta love 'em. Doggie's too. The first picture is of a kitty (Missy) I had a few years back. I was making Raggedy Ann dolls and had just finished one when Missy took over my sewing machine (before ME days for me). The last 2 pic's are my current sewing companions. Sparky (1 yr. old) and Gilligan (11 yrs. old and 18 lbs). Sparky has to sit on the chair with me...I have to sit forward and he is right there behind me.

Some favorites to share. I can't remember where all I got them, so if I got them through you - Thanks! I could watch the kitten sew for hours! (It doesn't take much to make me happy!) I don't think any of these are big memory hogs.

Thank You for all your beautiful pictures and wonderful stories of your fur babies! Aren't Cats just amazing?!?! I think it's their personalities that make them so unique and although they are incredibly beautiful animals, it's their inner beauty, that unique personality that draws me to them. You can see it in their eyes! I'm going to post photos of our two last kitties, Oscar and Ollie. There were both shelter kitties, and Oscar was dominant. The only reason Ollie survived at first was he was a very speedy runner. Ollie talked a lot, Oscar weighed 27 lbs and played High 5s! They were unique and sweet. They always helped me sew, and loved it especially when I laid out a quilt on the floor!

Absolutely.... As soon as the sewing room door is open 'Doc' is up on his blanket infront of the laptop, makes for very dexteritous finger work to get to the keyboard. Lily has an office chair with her blanket and Toby stratches out on the carpet or on the window sill.

Oh Helen, I so can relate. As soon as I sit at my pc Mishka sits on my right hand and helps me move the mouse. Of course I just hate disturbing him so I type left handed until he decides to move, which he never does. LOL!!!

It makes for great fun trying to digitise as it takes more accuracy than I have with my left hand. :-)))

meganne by meganne 08 Oct 2011

trying to digitise as I am not as accurate with my left hand. :-)

hightechgrammy by hightechgrammy 09 Oct 2011

It is really hard to see through the cat, isn't it! My Crackle always wants to lay on the laptop when I'm working on it. It's really hard to type - he he. She gets really comfortable and rolls over for a tummy rub. Then I have to clean fur off of the screen and the keyboard. I think she especially likes it because it's warm. When she was little she tried to catch the curser. I hate to disturb her, like Meganne too.

I love cats and sewing... LOL

1. This is my sewing room, the cat or mittens is always with me.LOL

2. Is a close up of the 1st photo with the cat at the bottom.

3. This is mittens when I get home. Wish it was me and not her on the sofa.

4. This is what my lap use to look like. Sandy would always lay on me, every time is would sit down. I had her for 13 years, sure miss her.

I am still working on mittens to lay with me like Sandy would. But she stays with me when I am sewing. I think she would try if she could. LOL

Thanks for looking. DeVon

I don't quilt but I wish I knew more about it. My baby is a 10 yr old blue Absynnian that rules the house. First pet ever inside the house. Typical Aby that he is we can't even read without him on the book. His name is Maximus (Maxi). My 3 little grandsons call him Maxicat. Maxi is the source of so much laughter here. So far he is super healthy so I hope we have him many more years.

Great Question! We find out more and more about each other.

We have a 12 year old tabby. She only cuddles when SHE wants to cuddle! Mostly an outdoor cat but has been coming in during the winter evenings the last few years. (I am a non-quilter)

I currently have 3 cats, also. They are what remains of 3 pairs of siblings. Two are 10 and the oldest is 17, but you wouldn't know it by how he acts. The brother and sister are very large (20+ lbs.) and the male sleeps between my husband and me almost every night.

I also have 3 cats. Janneke, a long haired multi coloured one who is 8, Mhing 7years old and black and Snap 6 years old and ginger also well named as I have never encountered such a short tempered cat, even our 7 months old big dog Risky walks with a big curve round her!

We have three cats too, and one is Snap! I've wondered how many cats it would take for someone to think I was a Cat Lady. I think I'd like one of each kind! Even grouchy ones.

19 Years ? that's quite old. Still a good health ? My cat is now 18 years old and starts suffering from her kidneys.

hightechgrammy by hightechgrammy 09 Oct 2011

How do you keep them going so long? I've only ever reached 16 years on a kitty. IT looks like she goes outside, too. She is very pretty, I love gray cats. What is her name?

claudenicolas by claudenicolas 10 Oct 2011

Yes she has a good heath, a good appetit, and she goes outside every day during several hours, she loves to sleep in sun, her name is Gigi, she meow very loud when she want something, and I must anwser immediatly

We have had several furbabies through the years. Our baby now is Buster he is 5 yrs. old and definitely runs the house. He can fetch a ball and comes when you call him. Even though i feed him, he is partial to my husband. he likes to snuggle in the blankets. lol

I agree with you, i have two inside cats and a few outside strays that i feed. The kids call me the crazy cat lady..lol I don't mind, someone has to feed these poor cats. I feel so sorry for them.
The first pic is a mother cat and she brought her 3 babies to feed.. awe and the second pic is 2 others that we brought in the house and got new homes for. They are resting with the hubby..lol We got home for 13 kittens and one mom so far.

Wow! That is so nice that you help find the babies homes! That is great. I would take in strays, but we never seems to have them. I think any wild kitties get eaten by forest predators. So sad... God Bless You!

Peekaboo was a stray, all matted coming to our bird feeder, and we took him in as our house kitty after taking him to the vet and groomers, and Lilly we got from the animal rescue to keep him company.

Oh Carolyn, They are adorable! IT looks like their lives got a whole lot better when they found you! Does Lillly have green eyes? Is Peekaboo a Himalayan?

teddybear117 by teddybear117 11 Oct 2011

Beautiful Himalayan. I used to have a blue point. Such a sweet heart. Looks like yours is too. And the one in the cat tree looks a wee bit spoiled... Nice kitty family.

Don't quilt but I have 2 cats, one is gray, 11 years old, deaf, going blind, has a bad heart and thyroid problems, you can feel every rib and spine. The vet says it's just waiting till we are ready to let go and have her put down. The other cat is black, 5 years old, steals extra food when she can and is overweight, she goes on a diet when the other cat is gone. The black one is actually our son's but his wife is very allergic to it. I would rather clean a litter box than pick up dog poop and you can go away all day and leave a cat in the house.

Cat, what cat? I don't own a cat -however a cat seems to think it owns me :) Rocky is *supposed* to live 2 doors down -not if you ask him, apparently. He's always there when I step out of the door and there seem to be always cat footprints on my car. Yes, I do feed him and I suspect he collects food from others (or their pets) as well. He doesn't mind greyhound leftovers either and thinks it's his job to check how scared of cats they can be :) He weighs similar to a couple of housebricks -very heavy, stocky cat. However I'm not a quilter, but maybe one day!

by turtleowl 06 Oct 2011

I only do a litle quilting, although I do love quilts, as they are a large part of my memories of my dear grandmother who made sure every member of her family had quilts. I also have 7 cats (3 who just showed up and live on my porch) who call me their person and I would not be happy without cats around, although some days would like less help in the sewing room.

Well I think by now everyone knows I love my cats, I grew up with cats and sewing, but definitely not quilting. Like most cats I only do things I enjoy doing and only if it doesn't take too much effort.

I think we all know how time consuming and fiddly, quilting is to do, plus you have to follow quilting rules, that's something NO true cat would ever do!
Imagine conforming to rules. Neow way! LOLOLOL!!!

My three babies, 1) Tidge, before she got sick
2) Mishka helping mummy with an Ebay listing photo
2) Spanky in his little house, he loved being in there so much we didn't need to close the door

They are gorgeous kitties. They look like they have three completely different personalities. I hope Tidgy is doing better. How old is she? I love her eyes! What do you sell of eBay? I love your outside space for Spanky. OUr kitties would LOVE an outdoor place to go that would be safe. I worry about foxes getting them when they sneak out, or hawks. Cats do love to be outdoors.

Hi Sarah, Thanks for asking about Ben. He's doing pretty well these past few days. I can't even imagine life without sewing - or without cats! My cats love it when I'm in my sewing room, they always lounge on the cutting table and love to lay on the fabrics. I have to keep them aways from the threads though. I have to pull it out of them if I don't! Do you have any pets?

That's sooo funny! My husband would never admit he loves our cats as much as I do. But I always notice they smell just like the hand lotion he puts on at bedtime. In the night, when I pet them, he usually is petting them too. But, if asked, he would deny it - Ha!

sometimes the best bandaid for the pain is a new baby that needs you so badly from your local shelter....

zoefzoef by zoefzoef 06 Oct 2011

Sorry to her about your cat. Mine is now 18 years old and is starting to suffer from her kidneys. Hve to give her special food now. but I know I'll not be able to keep her forever. Fot the moment she is fine, but I'm afraid to the day when she will not be there anymore...

terriweistra by terriweistra 06 Oct 2011

My kitty was a Russian Blue, beautiful colouring with piercing green eyes, we called her Fleabie because when I got her from the shelter she was covered in fleas. She died from throat cancer, she had lost so much weight, when I picked her up, she felt like a feather duvet
