Would you like a recipe that is just so easy to make.

APPLE CUSTARD SLICE

1 Packet Vanilla Cake Mix (The cheapest you can buy)
125g Butter
420g Pie Apple (I made my own from Granny Smiths) (Green cooking apples)
1 Egg
300g Sour Cream
Little Nutmeg
Slivered Almonds

Melt butter and mix into cake mix, lay (press) into Lamington tray.
Spread Pie apple over cake mix
Mix sour cream and one [1] egg and pour over pie apple.
Sprinkle with Nutmeg and slivered almonds.

Bake in 180 degree oven for approx 30 - 35 mins. Don't cut until cool.

Enjoy! Lyn

I have just made this slice (still in the oven) with Apricots and coconut instead of the Apple and Almonds. Fingers crossed that it works as it is for our Ladies Day tomorrow. If it doesn't turn out, I am going to have a lot of dessert to eat.

Oh and i didnt top with slivered almond. I hadSanitarium Light'n'easy , Macadamia & Honey with clusters cerial so i just put a light layer on top. YUM Sometimes you have to comprimise when you dont have all ingredients. :))

mi30kaja by mi30kaja 29 Oct 2011

Glad that everyone loved it. You always keep some of the edges for yourself.

mi30kaja by mi30kaja 29 Oct 2011

The Light'n'Easy sounds like a nice change. I am sure there would be many combinations you could use.

I love apricots, so would love to know if this one works. Pity My DH isn't here as I would love to make it but too much for only one.

mi30kaja by mi30kaja 31 Oct 2011

Tried the apricots. It still went down just as well, but I think it was too dry. Next time I will soak the apricots in Orange Juice beforehand. Someone suggested Brandy.

Alma, Let me know what you think. I worried about just puting the butter straight into the Cake mix without making up the cake mix first -- but it works. I had so many comments at the shower. Did you feel the tremor??

Lyn, This is a yummy dessert and we have variations of it so I converted your recipe for the American measurements and oven degrees.

1 - Box Yellow Cake Mix
1 - Stick and a tablespoon of butter
3/4 cups - Apple pie filling (make your own or buy in a can)
1 - Egg
10 ounces - sour cream
Little or dash of Nutmeg
Silvered Almonds

Follow the above mixing directions.

Bake in a 350 degree American oven on a
Lamington tray which is the same as our jelly roll pan (a cookie sheet with a raised rim 1 inch)

How much does a stick of butter weigh?

capoodle by capoodle 17 Oct 2011

Stick of butter is 4 ounces, a quarter of a pound, approximately 125 grams.

Chris, Thankyou for coming to my rescue. I forget that the Australian language is different to some of the other parts of the world. I brought a very small Lamington home so must take a photo before I eat it.

This is a show stopper, isn't it Lyn. We've been eating this slice for years up at our Church morning teas etc. Love Chris (p.s. I can't have it anymore due to my wheat allergy!!)

The g stands for grams. Love Chris

We are metric in Australia now!

mi30kaja by mi30kaja 16 Oct 2011

Sorry!. I just assumed that everyone knew our language. I have always told everyone never to assume anything??

mi30kaja by mi30kaja 16 Oct 2011

Thanks Chris. I just imagined that everyone knew what a Lamington tray was, but then not everyone knows waht a lamington is anyhow.

Carolyn, Just leave it a day or so as I took it to the Baby shower so nothing left and if you are coming I will have to go out and buy more apples, sour cream etc. Can't wait for you to arrive - but don't be late.
