I need some info. My main computer died, the Motherboard cashed it in. It was my computer that my 12 year old PE-Design was attatched to. It uses a com-port or a serial port, both are obsolete now..my reader box that I use to get the designs to my machine (also 12 years old and working fine,,knock wood) connects only with those two options. I tried to use a comport to USB adapter, would not work.

So, now my question is this. Does PE-Basic work with windows 7? I don't want to buy another PE-Design system, as it is $1200. and I like Embird better. I thought about buying a PE-Plus, that I can get for about $350. but since I have Embird, I really don't need that either. PE-Basic is around $150...so cost effective, IF it works with Windows 7?

I also wanted to tell you about Newegg.com. I buy computer things from them, really great prices on items, shipping (sometimes free), & you get things fast, usually in a couple of days. Hope this helps you. Tammy

Thanks, I know about Newegg, my BIL owns and operates a computer repair business, but he lives 100 miles from me. He would help, no problem and has over the phone, but getting my computer to him is a problem...He highly recomended Newegg.com

Mercy Sakes! So sorry about your computer problems. My computer got hit by lightning a few weeks ago, blew out the motherboard, but am using an old dinosaur we had. I bought a laptop in march with win 7, it works just fine with PED-Basic, if you download the driver from Brother. It reads & writes the card just fine. I use it for the cards, because it is faster than this one. Good luck to everyone, Hugs & Flowers for all!

I too had the same problem with my Janome 5700. It's old too and my customizer 2000 would not work with my new pc. I had to buy the usb adapter. I have windows 7. The only thing i had to do was to down load windows 7 32 bit and turn down the port speed in the usb port that i was using. Make sure you always use the same usb port for your machine. Hope this helps

I think PE works with both Vista & 7 with 32 bit processor(not 64). Go to the Brother site and click on "support center" and you can read all info about the programs & their requirements. Remember tho that Basic is only to transfer designs to card/machine..no design elements. I feel your pain--I have v5.6 and Basic also--I couldn't live without them!

All I need is the transfering element, as I have Embird, that I prefer! Thanks

I don't have that sort of system - so all I can say is I understand - I have been without mine for the last 4-5 weeks and trying to work without what you are used to - is a pain. However, I have a friend that helped me get into a used PC - that I was able to load all my programs onto and get it up and running - just this week - YIPPIE!

Sorry to hear this. My computer crashed last month and I lost everything on it plus cannot get my computer to connect to my sewing machine(Pfaff) so cannot embroider with it. I have had a terrible month since I am a complete dummie when it comes to computers. Good luck and I'm sending you a flower to make you smile.

You should be able to get a serial-to-USB cable quite cheaply and connect your existing box. I found them at RadioShack.com for about $20, Bestbuy.com for about $26 or link below to TigerDirect.com for $13.99. These are just some quick looks at some sites on the web. I have gotten other computer things at TigerDirect and have found their phone help to be very knowledgeable and friendly. They have helped me with what-goes-with-what questions in the past.
(standard disclaimer - no connection except that they have helped me in the past) If you have questions, please feel free to PM me and I will try to help.
Hugs and *, Lois
