ANOTHER TIP FOR YOU

Read what i found for quilting
I wanted to hold the layers of a quilt together that i have just started to create but had no quilting pins or anything strong enough to hold them. Now what should i do? MMMM Think..
Flash of light in the brain cell and i headed for the wardrobe.
There hanging on the rod were several empty "skirt " hangers, Those kind with the spring pegs on them. Just what i needed. I grabbed half a dozen and headed back to the quilt. Perfect. The spring on these are strong enough to hold the layers with ease and i can move them along the bar to get the spaceing.
I checked out one of them and realised that if i removed them from the bar totaly then they broke, BUT. If i took the time to cut the bar that goes beteween the spring clips just past the peg and used an old knife that was hot then i could melt the edge to make a lip it would stop the spring peg sliding off.
tomorrow i am heading into town to see if i can beg a few more of these type hangers and so save me a pile of money.
They are also a nice large size to handle and not loose them so easily.
I also use the spring hair slides to hold lace in place around napkins and pillowcases . Much better than pins as there is no risk of catching my finger and getting blood onto the item.

I have never used pins. I just get all 3(backing, batting, top)then make huge basting stitches, then start quilting.Finish with a pretty design on edges.

I've tried everything. Binder clips (office supply item) works best for me. I have trouble getting down on the floor to work, so I stretch it out on my bed (an air mattress) and don't dare put pins in that. Less blood spots on the finished product too.
But you know, hey, necessity is the mother of invention!!! Great that you found something that works for you!!

I like to use what is around also and started using the "Bull Clips" which are used to hold papers together and comes in lots of sizes and many to the box. Well I use them for snack bags, folded over boxes because they are strong, craft projects, fabric etc.
