Sorry this happened to you, but at least you weren't anywhere near. I was never fussy about a glass top stove - glad I never had one. Hope everything goes ok now.

Sorry to hear that. It seems that some models now are giving warnings not to use certain cookware or do canning on them because of that. So glad you were not in the room when it happened. Doesn't make sense to make them like that given the purpose of a stove/range.

Thank goodness that you were not nearby when it happpened. I expect it was awful to clean up

Oh my! I'm so glad no one was hurt! How strange that after 22 years of service, it just decided to blow up. I had a pyrex casserole explode not long ago and that made a mess - I can't imagine having an entire stove top's worth of shrapnel to clean up! I'll be looking at my glass top stove cautiously from now on. Glad you're ok and sorry about the subscription. Hugs and *'s, Deb

Was it by any chance a GE Monogram brand?? They just announced a recall today (I received the notice 6 hours ago) due to explosion hazard. I'll post a link here in case anyone is interested. Maybe this can be replaced for free?? Good luck. My aunt had the same problem. Hers happened when I was shopping for a new stove and cooktop. I opted NOT to get the glass after that happened!!

I was thinking of buying a glasstop stove, but now, I don't think I will be so brave!!!LOL Sorry to hear about your mishap, and I am glad that you didn't get hurt. My sympathies for not being able to extend your subscription. That seems to be almost as terrible as to what happened with your stove LOL I hope you will work things out to be able to get by. Love and kisses and a bouquet to you.

Not to minimize what happened, because that is really scary! But, I had a glass top stove, and will never buy another. It got a crack in it, and the crack kept growing until it was unsafe. The cost to replace the glass (which cracked for no apparent reason - though there surely was one) was as much as to replace the entire stove. I bought another electric (would much much prefer gas or wood!) with ceramic burners and covers. They can all be put in the oven and cleaned. They come out shiny and good as new!

HOLY COW! I didn't know this could happen! I've had a glass cook top for almost 7 years.... My only complaint is it is white..... and now where the burners are it is discolored and nothing to do about it........
Do you have any idea why it blew up?

Have you tried using a Mr.Clean Eraser with the glass top cleaner? Even just the eraser and water may work. My new range is a semi built in with a black glass top as what my previous one but this one is much harder to keep clean than the other one. The other one was a free standing range which wasn't as sophisticated as this one but I don't know why it is harder to clean. Same brand...GE.

The discoloration is not on the surface... It is discoloration under that shows through .... almost like it is scorched.
Sure hope it does not blow up.... It is a Maytag.

Saw you posted the cooktop is 22 years old. At that age don't know if I would fix it or buy a new one. If you get a new one will it still be a glass one?

This time we will buy a enamel one, the hard part is finding one to fit the hole cut in the bench top
