Hi, again!! Thanks for all the wonderful helps!! I have another question - do I need to use BOTH stabilizer and backing? Only sometimes - in what types of situations? Thanks again!! :)

Stabalizer, hoops under (on the back) of your embroidery project before you start. Topping (wss) goes on top, can float does not need to be hooped but can be. Backing...can be added to the back of your completed embrodery project to make in not scratchy/itchy to children, etc. You would not use this on all projects. Hope that helps. Linda

You already have your answer, but to elaborate - there is WSS that does go on top. It is water soluable stabilizer. It is used on top of items that your stitching might sink into (like a towel), and you can wash it away when you are done.

Stabilizer and backing are the same thing.
It is used on the back of fabric or the item to be embroidered on. It stabilizes the fabric and the embroidery stitches.

Thanks, DeVon - I don't understand the difference & uses for stabilizer vs embroidery backing. I am hoping someone can help clear me up on this - OR, are they the same thing - just different names?
Thanks!
