I find that a denim needle works wonders for any metallic thread. I usually use Marathon as well as a large cone, of which the origin is from India, but there is no specified emblems on it. I also use DOR TAC, and Mettlers with no problems. I might add that I embroider with metallics extensively. Hope that might help you. ***
Just finished a FSL snowflake with madeira thread. I always change my needle to a metallic one, also. Good luck-designs sure are pretty when finished!
I've only used Sulky with no problems. The tension adjustment is so close to cotton which is my primary. I also only use it for accent and really try to do the suport stitches with cotton. Have Fun christine Live Laugh Download Stitch!
I use coats/clark on my Janome with no problems. Just put it on the thread stand behind the machine and a metallic needle.
Guess I'm just lucky. I had seen some inexpensive (and on sale) and thought I'd try it. It worked just fine. I was concerned after I read others comments about metallic thread, but someone mentined using a thread stand (which I have). This was months ago and no problems.
I have been buying and using metallic thread from The Embroidery Store for years with no trouble - I use a regular needle - but if you are worried you can purchase a metallic needle and I use a net around the outside of my spool and my thread is always on a thread stand. 1-800-504-9757

King Star metallic threads are popular here in Australia. Another way to add 'shine' to your projects is to add some Mylar (cellophane type wrapping). If the items are not going to be frequently laundered, especially. There are many designs digitised for use with Mylar, and other designs where you can just put it in underneath, mostly if it's not too solid a fill, but a more lacey looking one.
I use the Madeira metalics with no problems on the Janome 300E. Use a metalic needle,if you can slow down the speed of the machine.I don't put my threads on the machine, I run my threads from a big spool holder, I find this stops the thread from crinkling and breaking.

I too like the Madeira. I have some other stuff that I dont like and neither does my machine. Like Dlonna I try not to use it
I try NOT to sew with metallic threads, but I was looking for a color of thread from Marathon one time, and I called the factory. They told me about a metalic thread that was very similary to the other that I did buy. I told them that I would give it a try. Well, I was so pleased with it - I don't know if I would use any other. But...frugal as I am, I have to use up what I do have. I paid $15 for a 5000m spool, which is what I was paying for a 1000m spool from RA at the Viking store. Good luck with your responses,.
I have been having wonderful luck with the Madeira gold and silver and will be trying the colored ones soon.. I use these on my Quattro..with no problems..no special needle..
