I have never stored my vilene ina plastic bag, and never had problems with it, until I forgot I had it near the ironing board, and sprayed water all over the one big piece. What a disaster!!! It taught me an expensive lesson too. Thanks to all for the valuable advice. ***
Monica, I found these fabulous Zip Lock bags at Dollar Tree that you can store a fairly large 2 year old in. Just kidding about the storage, but not the size! ;)
Good question - I was interested in the answers - thanks!
I keep all the light weight stabilizer in a zipper bag that sheets come in.. that way they are all together.. now the stuff I use for FSL are stored in a large bag..
lol mine just sits on my sewing table not far out of reach i never stored them anywhere ever lol hugs carolyn
I didn't know that I should keep it air tight! Thanks Cuties!! I just learned alot! Hugs! Patsy
No question is a silly question, right? Are we saying that we need to seal up Vilene in bags? Or are we talking the film kind like Solvy (that I do store in bags)? I don't have my Vilene in bags (and thinking maybe I should).....
I keep my Vilene is bags too. I remember reading someone, somewhere had some diaster to happen with water in there sewing room and you know what happened...YES, all of their water stab became liquid *2U
I think I would only cut a few yards off now, cut them in size pieces to fit my hoop, and place them in the large plastic ziplock bags. The remainder of the large roll yardage, I would store in a heavy duty trash bag, pressing as much air out as possible, then tying tightly at the end. Place the excess yardage out of the way, until I needed more.

Mine came in an oversized plastic bag and that's where I store it. Put the top and bottom ends inside the cardboard tube. Putting in some silica gel is a good idea, but refresh it in a low oven now and again as they may become saturated easily in moist climates.
I have used the container that it comes in usually - making sure it is tightly closed. I also have some tubes from when I bought some WSS in NC - so I have a couple that I still use for my smaller rolls, when I have them. Also a ziplock bag or two. whatever you can find to fit what you have or you will have to cut it down to fit into your bag or container - whatever it takes to keep it air tight is how I look at it. Keep on stitching.
I keep mine in a plasitc bag with a coulpe of those silicon sachets.I also add a bag clip to the top of the bag. I have had my roll for 4 years and its still like new.
Get one of the XL Ziploc bags. They come in a box just like the gallon zipper bags, but they are the 2 1/2 gallon size. They will fit the 100 yd. roll just about right. At least that is what I keep my Vilene in. I live in a very humid climate so that is a must. Food Saver bags also work if you have a Food Saver system. Then you can roll part of your stabilizer on to another cardboard tube and use that without getting out the whole role.
I cut mine in 6 ft. cuts, roll it up on an empty Raynold plastic wrap tube with the "easy cutter", dispenser. Using the cutter on the box, I cut off as much as I need.
Have fun! Rachel
I have a shallow airtight container, (normally used for frozen pastry sheets or similar) and I keep what I am currently using, usually several metres in there, lightly folded. Then the big roll I wrap back up in cling film till I need some more. Before I got the container I used a zip loc bag for the what I was currently working with.
I cut mine into lengths of say 5 mtr ( makes it easier to handle) then store them in Ziplock bags. I then squeeze the air out and then roll up and then secure with a strong rubber band. Good luck . :)
Thanks! I have some in ziplock that I bought precut a while back...I may look for a pretty airtight can ;D *2U
