Help Please. When I went to buy my quilted fabric the bolt had just arrived in the store. It was secured with Sticky tape. The Lady said that she would measure past the sticky tape and gave that to me no charge. It is almost 1 mtr in length. Now there are remnants of the sticky tape on the fabric, can anyone have any suggestions how to get it off without ruining the fabric?

I wonder if you used Scotch Tape or another kind of tape and put that over the sticky residue and rub the tape a bit and then lift it off quickly if that will pick up the residue.
I have used this method on sicky residue left on glass and other things.
Worth a try! LOL!

Thank You. I have so many suggestions that I will try them one by one. At the moment it is not urgent.

Can you please let us know if any of the sugestions work as I found a piece of Bobbin lace at a car boot sale that seems to have been put into a frame wrong way round with double sided cellotape. Having washed, lightly bleached and blocked the piece it still is stickey to the touch.

Did you get your sticky out? I have been gone for a week, so am catching up. Can I recommend that you NOT use any oily substance to remove sticky? It works great for non-porous surfaces, but if you use oil based sticky remover, then you have to find a way to remove the oil. Goo-Gone would be my suggestion as well. Good luck. That is a fabulous deal. If all else fails, maybe you can just cut your fabric and work around the sticky.

At the moment it is not urgent, but I will try after Sunday. Like you have said I might have to work around the stick patches

Try Peanut Butter, make sure to dampen the fabric, rub in some regular table salt and then add the peanut butter. If you don't want to try that, hair spray works too.

I use Peanut Butter/Paste to catch mice. So many suggestions. When I try and find the one that works I will let everyone know

I use acetone (nail polish remover) to take the sticky-tape marks off windows after they'd been taped up for cyclone preparations. Works well on glass; not sure how it would go on fabic? Maybe if you spot test it by dabbing on an unobtrusive area with a cotton-bud, then laundering asap after the goo is all gone. Hope this helps.

Could you incorporate the design into this bit of fabric so it does not show? Interesting answers. Lucky you to get the extra free, I have had it cut off (shops choice not mine) in the past when the end is a little damaged.

Possible but it is sticky to touch. If I can't remove it I might try to work around it.

Applique over it?

My Girlfriend has a few books on handy hints and it suggests a drop of Tea Tree oil on a panty hose. I will try this one first.

Sorry to hear of your problem. If I have dirt or sticky tape on my fabric I either cut it off or cut around it, guess maybe I am wasteful but don't want to use it in a project.

I am lucky as the lady in the shop actually gave this section to me, which is added onto the beginning of my 2 mtrs. It is too good just to throw away seeing that it is a freebie.

Goo Gone And De Solv It are great and work wonders, they are both a citrus based cleaner, maybe there is one available where you're at under a different name.

I must take more notice in the shops. These products or the equivalent might be on the shelves just in front of me.

You could try rubbing it with an ice cube!
or,
Eucalyptus oil. But I would use the ice cube first.

If you use the Eucalyptus oil remember it is an oil, so you will need hot soapy water to remove the EO.

mi30kaja by mi30kaja 10 Nov 2011

I am going to give this a go. I know Ice cubes are good for chewing gum.

We used to use goo-gone in the jewelry store I worked at to remove sticky residue on gift ware , fine china and crystal. I am not sure if I ever used it on fabric. If someone has a squeeze bottle, maybe they could check the label. I feel sure that you would have to wash the fabric as it is a citrus oil like substance.

I had the same problem with red fabric that came from Lincraft .I washed it but the marks were still there, so I took it back & it was replaced.
I will not buy fabric that has sticky tape or other types of sticky labels because the sticky marks often refuse to move

We do have it here. I'm in Vic. Pretty sure it was at the supermarket. In a clear bottle with a non aerosol spray. This one says it's Made in Australia by RCR International, Dingley, Vic

mi30kaja by mi30kaja 10 Nov 2011

I have never see it in the shops, but then I have never had reason to look either. If it is available in Vic then surely it would be available in South Australia as well. Thanks to both of you.

I left a piece of cotton wool with eucalyptus oil on it,on my machine cover for a while after using it to remove something sticky. When I picked it up it had started to eat into the hard plastic cover. At least my machine is easily recognised now
