80/12 Universal needle has worked fine for me (I buy that size in 100's so it is about all I use for anything).
I used an universal needle, satin stitch, no problems. I did make sure there was fabric behind the vinyl to provide support, so it didn't just puncture and perforate, though.
I've sewn on, sewn with and embroidered on clear vinyl. I like to use it when making pockets on knapsacks and car seat organizers for the grandsons. That way they can see what is in the pocket. I've only used sharps on this 'fabric' and have never had any trouble. The machine sews right through it, without missing a beat. It seems like leather needles would leave unnecessarily large holes in the vinyl. I've done satin stitch on the edging, etc, without problems.
I've done the same and I agree with you that the leather needle would make holes too big.
Thanks,I was thinking the same thing and thought it best to ask here first! :-)
I did not do machine embroidery through the vinyl. I covered the piece and did a multiple row large zig-zag to minimize the number of stitches through the vinyl. I use a 22 gauge vinyl and no I did not change the needle. http://projects.cuteembroidery.co...
These look great! Thanks for the tip of the walking foot...I never thought of that.
Nadyne I have not got a clue so I look forward to seeing what others say so I dont make a mistake when I sew with clear vinyl
