My first job at 15 was in a busy supermarket. My boss made a game for us where we got lollies for every cranky person we made smile. I still try to do that almost 30 years later. Really don't need the lollies, had way too many of those over the years. xx
Thank you. I needed to see that today. I got chewed out for something that was not done right. I may have deserved a correction but, not a chewing out. I just bit my tongue and carried on. It was hard not to come back with a smart reply.
LUV the smiley cup.
One time an acquaintance came up to my husband and said, "Now I've heard it around town, so I thought I'd just ask you, Is Ben 100% retarded or what?"
He didn't know how to respond to that rude comment, but did politely. We could think of several not so nice comments later, though.
You all might be really surprised at the hurtful comments that those among us, who have the most tender of hearts, are asked to put up with, and to do it politely. And, you might be surprised at some people, whom others think are just so nice, really give cruel comments, and cruel stares. It's so sad. It's really discouraging, and very, very sad to this mom of a special needs young adult. It was much easier when he was a cute little child with disabilities. Next time you see an adult with disabilities, don't look past them, look at them with a smile and say Hi.

I cannot comprehend why people make awful comments or stare when someone is clearly unable to change their disabilities??!! How cruel, makes me very sad. Ben is blessed with an AWESOME Mom. Hugs & *s
The most hurtful comments about my 20yo special needs son have usually come from the most unexpected people. I've always replied - my son's biggest disability is attitudes of people like them. xx
So true, my dad always said, to treat others the way you want to be treated. Flowers for all. DeVon
I agree and have just given you all flowers - no-one else has! Love Chris

yes, it's the "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" isn't it. The world would be a better place.
I agree. The world would be a better place if we all did this.
