I find this almost impossible to grasp. We have hot weather here at the moment in SA. It is many, many years since I have seen snow. I have lived in the Southern hemisphere for 46 years but I still miss my English Christmas.
Dear Teri,
We don't get snow here on the East Coast of Australia (Newcastle). I used to go skiing when we lived in Victoria, but haven't done that for 30 odd years! Aalthough I do love the snow though and winter time. My memories are more of being around a glowing fireplace! Hot Milo, marshmallows on the fire and eating sweets! Love and blessings Chris
I remember the thick cumbersome snow suits my mom made my sister and I wear before she would allow us to go out to play in the snow. They were so bulky you could barely walk and when I think about it, we probably moved like the men did in their suits on the moon! and I remember: Snow angels, snow forts, snowmen and snow as high as the garage roof in Rochester NY!
Amazing to think that we are almost in mid summer and had terribly hot weather the past week and you are having snow. I am taking care of smaller children from time to time and you should have seen their amazement earlier this week when it was so hot and I explained to them the meaning of the song a White Christmas - that in certain areas it actually snows on Christmas day while we swim and eat ice cream.
I have not seen snow since 2007 when I was training out in the MidWest, and had to go into blizzard conditions. Growing up in Nebraska, we saw lots of snow - some fond memories. I remember my mom making "snow cream". I don't think we would want to eat it now with all of the fall out from the things in our atmosphere. I used to like to ice skate, and we had skate ponds set up each winter where during the summer there was never any water...and seeing "snow fences" to keep drifts off the highways. One of the most dreaded memories was having to walk to school in that snow, and being too proud to wear snow boots - and after walking nerly 2 miles to school my feet would be frozen. I would love to see it, but glad I don't have to live in it.
Snow is beautiful (on a postcard)! LOL Spoken like a "southerner", huh?? You betcha!! I don't mind getting a bit of snow here in Georgia, once every FEW years! Helps me appreciate living in the South! LOL

I agree. I say let it snow, someplace else. I am not a fan of the white stuff and I will enjoy the Texas winter. May have a total of 2 days of snow then it melts. But we do have the cold winds that blow right down your neck.
Flowers 4 sharing. First of winter I enjoy the snow, if I'm inside. By February I'll be dreaming about spring, and being out in my yard.
Like many of you I remember sleighing, being snowed in, etc. One of my favorite memories is ice skating with my big brother at a nearby pond. Howard could ice skate really well. Every time I got on the skates my weak ankles would tip and down I would go. I could never stay upright with skates, so I would wear my red rubber boots and slide all over the ice. It was tons of fun. Oh the memories of when we were young.
Thankyou dear for coming back and sharing, too and for all the others so far - what lovely and fun memories.
Having fun sledging and as I was wearing a velvet dress getting a wet slap around the legs later on when I got back inside. Cor sledging in a dress must have been mad...
I also remember sleding on a old 'tatty' tray when my mum was away then I found out the tray was a favourite of hers... Not so fond memories are of the snow last winter and the road by home was closed for a week and I could not get up to the top of our own road for another week. The result was we had to stay at home for Christmas and my younger daughter was deprived of her guests - me and her dad. I do remember when the area was cut off and it took a week for the digger to release us
Building snow forts, playing king on the hill, sledding behind the Studebaker with my cousins, horse carriage romantic rides with my spouse. I love taking pictures of the fresh snow gleaming on the branches.

My favorite memory of a heavy winter snow storm was school would be cancelled. lol Our local college would drill holes in the creek so ice skating and sledding on the nearby big slope was fun. My best friends mom would make snow ice cream for us so I looked forward to fresh clean snow and my mom would make hot chocolate on the stove for when we came in cold. Then there were building the snowmen and snow forts and having snowball fights.
I do not have too much of snowed winters... Came from Cuba 15 years old, lived in Michigan for two years, We had a beutiful experience seen the snow for the first time, but after months of it, i was wondering when was it going to stop..., we left Michigan before the second winter snow, and I have not seen it anymore, moved to South Florida since then.... coming from a tropical nation, after been stuck in the house becuase snow storms,I do not miss the snow at all, it is very beautiful when you do not work and do not have to shovel or clean drive ways every day at 5:00 AM in the morning that is what comes to my memory when I see or hear about snow.
Terri, you got much more than we did - it didn't last through the night - I wonder - how the roads will be on Monday - do you have any idea - what the weather will be like up your way - Rick says it will be clear here.
As for my winter memories - they are mostly of my youth - we loved making snowmen, ice skating, sledding and going for hay rides with a horse pulling a sleigh - when my children were small - I can still remember each of the snowmen that they built - it was so much fun watching what they would do - with what they had - I used to take them to a hill and they would ride their sleds down it - go up and down as long as I would let them. How fun was that. One winter - we were driving along the hill on Riverdale Road - which was much steeper than it is now and a big rig behind me swerved and I thought he was going to run into me - so I swerved and ended up flipping a donut - it scared me - as I had both my children with me - Travis was laughing and he said "Momma do that again" - little did he know that I hoped that would never happen again in my life time - so far not. Rick and I love to go for rides - over the river and through the woods - he loves the mountains when they have snow on them and always wants to get out and play in the snow - being from the South - he never had much snow when he was young. We don't get out and play now.
Tell us some of your fond memories of winter, too?
I remember that the world seemed to get less noisy.
I remember snowball fights, sledding and making snow angels. Snow was a large part of my childhood and now I have lived over 40 years in the sunny part of California and have seen snow twice.
