We would just turn them toward fireplace.Did not matter as long as they had something.
Now, here's a good question. I'm right-handed and have always thought of and drawn Christmas Stockings with the toe facing left. In fact when I see those printed panels of stockings with the toe facing right they look awkward and back to front to me. I did, however, make my little grandson a beauty from a panel facing right a couple of years ago. If I make the stockings from scratch they always face left, though. Still, if they hold the goodies, who cares???
Afterthought!!! If I were making several stockings to hang on a mantelpiece I would Have To make them all facing the same way to appease my eye. I just couldn't have one or two hanging the other way.
(As the Americans say... and I love this expression .... Go figure!!!!)
AlmaG.
if you embroider them on both sides you can hang them left or right facing. Or do I misunderstand the question?
I was just curious. My family has always pointed the toe to the right. I have a left-handed friend, and she points hers to the left. Just wondering if it's tradition, cultural, or just the way the brain sees things, much like some people prefer symmetrical designs, and some people prefer asymmetrical designs.
Not sure if it should be either way. I'm just in the middle of making some for my hubby & I & have faced them differently....ggg
Hmmmm , good question , I dont know the answer though.lol
Seems to be asked each year about this time. hugs Helen

I usually point the toe to the right. I really don't know why. I'm right handed but I don't know if that makes a difference or non. Lol
