I used to have just a reg. sewing machine that is now over 30 yrs. old and the only servicing was the first yr. as they give you a free servicing before the end of the first yr. After that I just kept it clean and oiled, never had a problem with it.
Now, I have an emb./sewing machine and I took it in for its free servicing. Since then, when I was at the sewing centre I happened to talk to the service man (who remembered what kind of machine I had and that I had had to replace the bobbin case!) and he said just clean it and oil it (I mentioned a video on utube that showed what to do and after telling him a few things about the video, he figured that I had all the help I needed). I was impressed that he didn't think I had to be running to him all the time (he services a lot of machines and of a lot of brands).
I have been getting my emb machine done every year - or when it starts acting up. My sewing machine is in need (been too long) but it will have to wait until my embroidery machine gets out of the "hospital" - can't be without both at the same time!
I get mine done every year but only my Bernina my small sewingmachine I maintain myself!
I have not sent my sewing machines for service for the past 20 years..not since the service person messed one up.Like you I keep them well cleaned, oiled & give them a wipe over when I go to use them.(I have 7 vintage machines which all get a turn)
I get my embroidery machine done every 12/18 months. Try to keep them all clean, dust free and well oiled. Only service the others about every 2 years. Hugs Yvonne
I send mine in right after xmas every year, New year, clean machine. Now my sewing on the other hand doesn't get used as much since my embroidery is my sewing too. the other is for back up totally and usually gets used the most around xmas goes in if something is not rumming correct other than that I keep it cleaned and well oiled same as my serger. The shop I use guarenties for a yr.
I am lucky both my Bernina machines tell me when it is time to have them serviced ,that way they stay trouble free for many years , I have so much invested in my machines to neglect them .
The embroidery machine is serviced yearly and the sewing machine never as I do it. You must use your embroidery machines a lot more than I do
I'd like to get it done on a regular basis, eg every 1-2 years but it is a logistical nightmare. So it usally gets done when and if something goes so wrong that I can't fix it myself. My footcontrl broke down the other day. Rang up for a part, and hubby will fix one day when he is'nt too busy. Lucky I've got another that fits!!
I usually take mine in for service every 12-18mth. Hugs Sally
