Bobbins are expensive. I do use some pre wound and my machine does tolerate most, but at the first sign of trouble stitching i will change the bobbin. This usually works. I tried to find the photo of my disaster of trying to rewind a cardboard bobbin, but could not, however you can rewind the plastic pre wound ones, which gives you many extra bobbins.
Like Shirleen, I have hundreds of bobbins. Mostly pre wound and the ones I wind if I do FSL. I have many!!
Hugs, Bonnie
For the emb. machine....I keep about 40 prewound...When I use a pack of 20 I buy another pack of 20. Regular machine 25.... need more because I keep having to change colors. I only use white for emb. so far.

well - not for sure how many I have, and I might not tell anyway...lol, but I found 2 new packages of 20 each in my sewing room when I was cleaning it up some. Now, if I could find the gross of hot fix crystals that I bought...now, where did they go?
I have just over 100 for regular sewing and now have 9 for emb. I only use white for emb. as I haven't tried fsl yet (prob. won't for a while yet).
Not knowing better I bought some online. Wow when I got the boxes I had 720. Well I do not have to wind bobbins for a while.
For my embroidery machine I think I have 3. I use pre wound bobbins
I have a lot for the emb. machine. When I am doing FSL, I like to pre-wind about 5 or 6, so I don't have to stop during my project. I wind up with several with small amounts on them, but when I am sewing the pieces together, (like a bowl or doily), I just wind the thread onto the bobbins for the sewing machine & use them up that way. I guess we all have our own little ways of doing things, LOL. Tammy
I'm gonna get me more for both machines, never have enough bobbins!
If I ever thought I knew the answer , I would open up another drawer or box and find even more !
Did have to purchase some for my little Pfaff 260 I found at a yardsale ! It sews like a dream !
I was thinking about that, this weekend! I have about 25 bobbins, but more thread colors. I could do with another 25, although they would probably fill fairly quickly and then I would want more. Bettina uses one? AMAZING!
wow!!! I thought I was being self-indulgent when I bought a pack of 20 to top up the ten, give or take a few, that I already had. I think Viking bobbins are expensive but I can get cheapies on the internet and I can rewind the empty prewound bobbins - all of which work well in my machine. Then I bought a pack of coloured ones recently - haha I just remembered them so thanks for bringing up this subject and now I'll have to find those coloured ones.
My bobbins have those tiny fat stretchy hair ties which I colour-coordinate with the thread colours. I'm a lot more organised with the bobbins now I have a side-winder and bobbins that will fit on it.

A BUNCH! I have most of my gross of prewounds left. I have probably 100+ others that are wound with matching thread for FSL, satin stitching, etc. I reuse my prewounds when empty for the matching colors to my thread - but ran out of empties and had to go to the store to buy some until I could empty more prewounds!
That's is what I was doing over the weekend a bobbin for every color. Glad I just bought some more bobbins.
I'm like Bettina, I have one. I don't do FSL and haven't gotten into using the same color on the back as the front.
Diane
I have 1 (!!!) that works good for the sewing machine (some more inside the bow still winded from my aunt who bequeathed me the machine but not my colors) and about 10-15 for my both embroiderymachines. I must be a poor girl *lol*
Have just white and black (silhouettes) bobbinthread for embroidery cause I don't do FSL. For my lamps the white in the sewingmachine fits in most of the cases cause the squared fabric I use is always white in combination with a second color ;o)
Greetings, Bettina
So pleased to hear this Bettina - I thought I was 'cheap' with only about 10 :)
Lots and lots of them., All kind of ones that are wound with different colors and lots of prewound white ones. Hugs, mary
I upgraded my bernina from the 430 to the 730 last year. Guess what? The bobbins are not the same size. I have now hundreds of bobbins for the 430 and only 12 for the 730. Annoying!
I'm right there with you! While I'm way behind the times, in regards to the machines - I upgraded a few years ago to the 185 (Artista) and none of my Nova (Bernina ooooold machine from 70's) bobbins would fit. I still sew with the Nova, when the artista is doing a design, but I sure wish that pile of bobbins could be used on the artista!
Yes , and if you go to the 830 it is another size bobbin. I love my 730 and if I ever up grage to a new Bernina, I plan to keep my 730.
I have only about 10 as I now use prewound, which is almost clear, so do not need matching thread.
I use the same ones and every night before i go to bed i rewind the ones i use so each day i start fresh with my little circle full lol hugs carolyn
You have alot more than I do! But I'm just getting started. LOL!
This looks great!
For my Bernina
180.......60
440.......56
830........40
Just a few need more...
Let's see - I do FSL alot - I like a bobbin for every color of thread that I have - I am going to try to order bobbins when I get some money - so I will not count that 50 yet. OK - about 275 - give or take a couple. Then I have a about 25 pre-wound, too.
I'm with you---I like a bobbin for every color on FSL. I've been doing some multi-color FSL designs lately, and going thru the bobbins fast.
Have you gals ever ordered thread from smartneedle.com ? it comes with a filled bobbin inside each spool of thread, I love it!
Oh yes, I wind my own bobbins for my regular embrodery - but I do that as I go - I also have about 75 for my Mother's machine, too.
I haven't tried smartneedle.com, but sounds like it's worth a look!
(After I run out of the bobbins I just bought......)
I have about 50 sewing machine bobbins and around 300 prewounds for my embroidery machines.
I have about 20 for regular sewing, which I do little of on the embroidery machine, and for color embroidery. I have probably another 40 that are pre-wound bobbins for embroidery. I have different machine that I do my regular sewing on. That machine I have about 30 bobbins.
I meant to add that my embroidery is usually with just white or black pre-wound bobbins.
I've been doing a lot of FSL, so the bobbin pretty much has to match the top thread. That must be my problem, too much FSL!!
