I use tin foil on the smaller ones. But on the larger ones a have a sharpener for those and do it myself.
Great question. I just asked hubby to look on evay for new applique scissors. Hope this works! christine LLDS!
yep. I use a big piece of foil folded over several times and cut the whole thing to pieces. Works great with pinking (zig-zag) scissors too. xx
I read somewhere that if you take aluminum foil and fold it 4x's over itself and cut it with your scissors it sharpens them up. I do this with my
stork sciccors and works like a charm.
Where ever you get your hair cut ask there as they have to have their hair scissors sharpened often. I've tried the other methods and they work plus my dad gave me a couple filing stones and showed me how. He said to file down on the angle and count the times and repeat the same number of time for the other side. Also, gave me some black super fine sandpaper that you wet for my serger blade since it is curved.
My local Hancocks Fabrics used to have a sign on their door occasionally listing a date that a fellow would be at the store to sharpen scissors. But, I have always sharpened my own with a sharpening stone that can be purchased from most Hardware or Building Supplies stores. I slide the edge needing sharpening a couple of time in the SAME direction. That seems to do the trick for me. NEVER sharpen anything in an up and down motion! Go the same direction for a sharp edge. Hope this helps.

WOW, great info...I noticed when I was clipping my threads, it was not sharp. I've had them for mant years ;D *2U
I've used the foil & it really works. Didn't know about the other ways. Arlene
Thanks but I may be the only one that see's no difference...I may try again ;D *2U
Oh it works for me just make sure to do it
until its sharp and use a thicker stack
if needed.
I saw your note after I mentioned my tip-I see we are in agreement.
All you need do is get a glass bottle and try cutting the neck of the bottle with your scissors. Do this several times until they are sharp.
OR
you can get a sheet of foil, fold it several times then cut it all up until your scissors are sharp.
OR
you can get a metal pot scrubber and cut that up
OR
you can get a STEEL and run the blades across it like you are trying to cut it.
I have used all these methods and they all work.
hugs n love Meganne
Thanks Meganne, I L*VE those scissors. I will try the foil again because I didn't see any difference. Maybe I didn't fold it enough ;D *2U
fold 2 pieces of tin foil in half, take your blunt scissors and cut along, this will sharpen them. :)
I am very fortunate to have a 'built-in' sharpener Ha, ha. My husband sharpens all of my scissors so I never have to buy replacements. Just be careful who does sharpen them, they have to know what they are doing!!
Yeah I tried doing my own on an electric sharpner and even with a dremel and messed
up a few pairs preety bad.
I am so glad you asked this question...I have 2 pair that are dull and wondered the same thing. Hate to have to buy new ones.......thanks for asking!
