What a wonderful experience! But please be careful! They can be dangerous! When I told my husband, he said they know who is OK and as long as you stay away from their young!
Thanks for sharing your backyard. Everything looks so pretty. Love the moose and cat!
Love your photos and the recounting of the experience; my daughter and son-in-law will be moving to Fairbanks, Alaska, next summer, and I assume that they will see moose. We have never seen one 'in person'.
Thanks,
Hugs,
Jacqueline
Wow- that is just amazing. We live in Ct but have been up to NH, ME, & Vt but have never been lucky enough to see a moose. You could always put out a salt lick- at least the deer like them but you will have a lot of company!
we dont have moose but kangaroos and koalas i love your pic and the snow seem so peacful....soozie
Wow what an experience! Have to admit that I'm hapy we have not so much snow here cause I'm more a "sunflower" ;o)
Just watched with my daughter the opposum in Chris' tree in the backyard and I remembered that there was once a cutie who posted pics from her backyard with alligators (Meganne?).
Wonderful to see all these different animals that live around the cuties allover the world :-)
Greetings, Bettina
Oh how beautiful! Mother Nature must have sent her your way... knowing that you would appreciate the visit and be a gracious host. The pictures are just awesome!
OMG, Jan, I Love Lucy!! What an awesome girl! And look at your furbaby checking her out...LOL! Mother Nature is so wonderful, isn't it? Just cleaned Graycie up & Daddy's holding her now...She is holding her own, so far.......Hugs!
I still can't believe you got Graycie back!!! Poppy is a bit too curious and too brave. He wanted to go down there and smell it. I actually had my fingers inside Lucy's mouth and patted her thick, furry nose. It's way too dangerous, but at the moment I didn't even care if I died doing it! I knew you'd like her!
Wow! I have deer in my yard but they are skiddish and don't come close. We leave them piles of corn, apples and beets. They love them and we love watching them :-)
We have mule deer her that are really skiddish too. They bound away with any movement. Isn't it neat to have them visit?!?!!!
Well, these pictures surely tell me that you're in your winter season right now. The snow looks gorgeous but I know it's cold so I'll just stay here and wait for the hot, hot lazy days of summer to hit me.
How wonderful to have a moose and her babies come to visit you. That picture No. 4 is a gem. Although I know there are dangers to think about, isn't it exciting when wild creatures visit!!!
AlmaG.
It's always a good day when we get to share it with wildlife, don't you think?
These are her two babies that were just born last June. Can you see them? They were about 30 feet away and well hidden, don't you think? When moose babies are just learning to eat grasses, they get down on their knees to munch. Their legs are long and gangly.
Thanks, baby one is leaning against a stump. They didn't come back today :-( I'm sure they'll be back sometime, though.
I do not mean to rain on your parade...however I was born and raised aroung moose. Please be VERY careful...if you or even a dog get between her and her calfs she will charge and they can do massive damage. Just concerned for your safty. H&*
You are sooo right. She was between me and the babies. She is become pretty tame in our neighborhood. I had a quick escape plan. But it IS really dangerous. I can't tell you how many people get out of their cars and just go toward them to get a closeup pictures. Thanks, I will be VERY careful.
We have elk that wander up to the door the same way. And bear. They get in to the bird feeders and trample all of my yard down to the ground. A few months back, we had a herd come through and they got spooked and pushed a medium sized tree over in my front yard. They are powerful animals!! Great pictures. I bet they were hungry.
We have elk too that totally destroy aspen trees with their antlers. Isn't it amazing how powerful they are?! I do need to be more careful. A moose killed a ninety year old man in our town who accidentally walked right into one. That moose was injured, though.
Un-believable!! Do you have close neighbours?
Fairly close by. We just have trees between us. Not very many people live up here in the wintertime though. These moose don't respect our privacy much and often look in the lower level windows :-)
Amazing pictures. I think your cat is very brave.
That silly cat thinks he is a dog and tries to chase everything out of our "yard." He's a ragdoll, and no one told him he is a wimp.
Wow! Love your beautiful story and the fantastic pictures! Was your dog scared? Hugs, Lidia
No dog, just a cat that thinks he's a dog, and he was respectfully brave. I had no problem convincing him to come back inside. :-) Silly cat
WOW your moose friend is big! I think I would be scared but neat to look at the pics.
Hi Jan! Your pictures are super! Wow! You did get close ups! Thanks for sharing!
Awww, I love deer and would love to be able to feed some, we don't get moose around here but I'll bet I'd love them too. I hand feed my squirrels peanuts and they come running when I walk out the door or we pull in with the car! You are soooo lucky and so is Lucy, she has a new friend who has food!
I don't know if I can afford to be a very good friend, 4 apples a day would cost a lot - he he. I bet she'll be back tomorrow... I wonder what else I could give her that wouldn't be bad for her.
PUMPKINS if you have them. The elk here LOVE them. I was surprised, but the cows like the treats too!!
Pumpkins! I'll see if there are any left over from halloween and Thanksgiving!
Great pictures. Keep us posted and let us know if she comes back to see you.
this is so beautiful picture you have a loots a snow very nice i do miss this kind a scenery .Maria
Hi Maria, truly this is just the beginning. We will have three feet on the ground from January through April or May! It all melts in June when we have Mud Season. We always have a white Christmas though :-) We live at 8600 feet above sea level. The air is pretty thin up here - gasp gasp!
way to go they are ugly but very intreting animals i love them also !!
you got some great shots... but you can keep the snow where you live.. I need heat.. Sun and more Sun... We have some cold weather now in the San Diego area and it is colddddddddddddd. keep warm and be careful of the wild life..
Wow! I'm amazed that she came that close to you! Thanks for sharing and be careful! I guess the word is unpredictable! christine Live Laugh Download Stitch!
What a wonderful experience to have a moose in your backyard, wow! Thanks for sharing, brought a smile to my face.
great pics, Love the moose, look at all that snow! So different to me hot and humid in oz! Hugs Sally
Great pics. Thanks for showing us your hungry visitor :)
This is so cool. Be careful though. She will be back. My neighbor was feeding the deers with apples from his tree and they started to gather every day.
Use caution as moose can kick the ------ out of you. My dad taught us to not feed the wild life. If there isn't enough food available they will move on. Have to admit I have feed the wildlife. lol She sure seems pretty curious and you got some good pictures of her.
Her nose was covered with really super deep, thick fur, with snow on it and she didn't care that I rubbed it. At that moment I didn't care if I died from touching her. It was a wonderful moment. She wanted another bite of apple and I felt her teeth on my fingers! Toooo coool!!
on my fingertips! Tooo cooool!! I did leave the door to the house open and my plan was to scramble back up those steps really fast!
Oh my!!! I grew up near The Great Smokey Mts. and we were taught not to feed the bears in the park, once I was throwing cheese-it crackers out the car window from the back to the big black bear and he came closer when I stopped and quickly rolled up the car window. No electric windows in those days. He left a large paw print on the window and I showed all my friends later. It was my trophy!!!!
Wow!! What a wonderful experience for you to have her come "begging".. Hugs, Mary
