Okay, question from a newbie, I have, like many others I'm sure, downloaded designs that I'm not sure what they are now. Really thought it would come up on the disk when I opened it. So the question is, which program is best to view and organize these files?

Merry Christmas to all!

I have 3D all from Husqvarne that was expensive, but does not like newer brother designs.
Now downloaded Sewcat
http://sandscomputing.com/id17.ht...
this cost next to nothing. You can try FREE for a month and I find it fantastic. they also have other programs for small amount of money.
Further there is Ann the Gran Cataloque express, you can also try that for free. Put designs in files first so as not to move them.(One moved you can not open them), you can catalogue in there and open designs and also change format.

I use 4D Embroidery and love it. Until you do get your software when you download a design change the name to something you'll know what it is. Once you get your software you can download the design and change the name to indicate where you got the design, if the download doesn't say all ready. I also organize by folders. For example, animals, birds, bugs, fonts, kitchen etc. Under large folders like animals I'll have dogs, cats, wild animals, applique etc. You have to figure out what works best for you. I started with folders even before I bought my software. As for adding the sites to the file name, I just started that and I sometimes I forget to add the site. :-)

I'm still a newbie too. I use Brother's PE Design for 99% of what I do. I also have an old copy of Embird that I use to convert any files that I can't get in Pes. xx

I have been using Embird Basic and the Iconizer for a few years and I love them! They are not expensive and give you freedom to look, move, merge, change colors, printing templates and much more. I couldn't do without these two programs (from the same place). I bought an upgrade two years ago and this year's ugrade has been free of charge! Hugs, Lidia

I still consider myself as a newbee. And so far I'm using "My Editor" It's freeware. So far it does the things I'm able to do + understand, and to check. Maybe one day it's not enough, but for the moment it is ok. I'll give you the link.

I use a really old version of Buzz Tools to view files still in their zip file. You don't have to unzip them to see what is in the file. With embroidery software, you usually have to unzip the file to open and view a design.

Firstly, Welcome MJ!! You are doing well so far! This forum "community" is the best place to get your embroidery and most any other question or concern answered.
Buzz Tools is just one of many that I have used to organize, unzip, and convert files. Once downloaded I store they can be stored on your computer.
Again, welcome, and hugs to you!

I like Embird Basic and Embird Iconizer (have to have Basic too for it to work). There are SOOOO many things you will be able to do with Embird Basic - things you may not know you want to do yet - but you will find out later - wow, that is really nice. You can merge designs, take parts of designs out, etc. If you really get into things later you can add other modules.

Welcome to Cute!

Hi as another newbie I am curious too! I have BuzzXplore that I use. But it is an outdated version that I got from a friend when she bought another version.
