Why do you embroider on toilet paper? I don't get it. Is the recipient supposed to use the roll if you give it for a gift? Is it a gag?

Thought I might add that you can also embroider on paper towels and napkins.

I've done several and sell them at farmers markets. Quite the novelty gift up here. Hoop your stabilizer & TP (fold over 3-4 sq). Make sure the design isn't too dense. You can float a piece of white felt if you want to make a denser design. Some say don't hoop the paper some do. I think it works better when you do. Red Work designs work really well. It makes for a nice gift along with emb. towels.

I have never done this - but like the pictures that I have seen of the gifts. I just can't figure out - once that first sheet of TP is stitched on - how do you keep it pretty and in place - once the TP roll gets used? Help me to understand this - OK? *4U

I thought you must be crazy to embroider on toilet paper. Then I did one and tied it up with a guesttowel for a friend who run a tea garden cum craft shop in her own back garden. She set it on the counter and sold it the same day. So I made 3 more a fortnight ago and they are gone. I do not know what people do with them, but apparantly they like the idea. Flower for asking.

How is this done? Do you embroidery on something and slip it over the roll? Yes talking about unique gifts, housewarming, gag and all. I love them. I remember my granny did crochet and put over the roll.

No, you embroider at the thirth or fourth leaf from the end. I strenghened it with thin vilene after the first try when the paper tore, fix it with spray adhesive on tear away stretched in the hoop. After embroidering remove it carefully from the hoop, fold over the 2 or unembroidered leaves, fix it with a little glue and Bob is your uncle.

LOL..."What? You already have embroidered TP?"

pafhen by pafhen 09 May 2008

But it would come in handy when you just happen to need that extra roll

I sell the rolls at my craft shows, so for me, I embroider TP for the CA$H it brings me! Most people who buy, purchase it specially for that "special" person that it reminds them of! Like the niece who has the lighthouse bathroom...she gets my lighthouse design. Or I guess, if they are like me...always looking for a "unique" gift...it's usually something that they don't already have! lol Mine sell pretty good...been selling them now for 12 years!

May I ask how much you sell them for? *4U ><>

justheather by justheather 09 May 2008

That's the best reason I've heard yet.

kkcogle by kkcogle 09 May 2008

I keep my designs to very simple ones...I like using redwork designs a lot. Usually, the designs are around 2-3000 stitches. I sell for $6.00 a roll, in a cello bag and tied with wraphia ribbon. But remember my story about ebay? I was fetching $25.00 a roll on my outhouse design back in about 1996...

I think there are many right answers to that question, it just depends. I believe it's like having the "special" towels, just too look pretty for guests and the rest of the family doesn't use them! lol Like Conch shells go in bathrooms too. But I like your idea of a gag gift too! lol Can any one think of another "cute" reason?

When I first ran across it, I thought maybe they were using the TP as a stabilizer substitute. Then I found a picture.
