Dear Cuties, I am eager to learn what the

meaning of "sock monkey" is. From time to time the expression is being used here and I also know the pictures. However, because we haven't such a thing in Germany I wonder whether there is a
special meaning or habit around this "special monkey". Grateful for letting me know...have a nice week - Maria

There is one currently advertising PG Tips tea here in the UK. He is very cute!

I make a lot of sock toys. They are just toys made from a pair of socks. Just search Sock Monkey or sock Toys on the Internet. The original was the Sock Monkey.

Hallo Maria,
danke für die Frage. Über die Affen hatte ich mich auch schon gewundert :o)
Ich hoffe, Du konntest noch ein bißchen ausschlafen (bist Du auch eine Nachteule?).
Liebe Grüße
Bettina

Good question, Maria, and one I've also wondered about. Seems it's based on a cartoon, according to Wikipedia.

They were really big many years ago when parents would use work socks that had white and red heals on them to make the monkeys for the kids. I wanted to make one but I didn't have the socks available and it was cheaper to get one already made (though not of the true socks) than to buy a kit with directions. He just makes me smile, so many things do.

Thank you so much for explaining the details and also like to thank you for the beautiful picture of yourself with the sock monkey.
I love people with a good sense for humour like you are!

Hi Maria a sock monkey is made from socks and Lynn here seems to specialise in making them. She has made some beautiful ones and its got others hooked on producing them too

Thanks a lot for the information. Would be a
good idea for the grandsons, I guess.
Have a nice week - Maria
...and also a new handcraft fashion idea for forthcoming charity sales bazaars in the next year. My sisters and other women are always happy for new ideas which are easy to do - however, have to look for the special socks as well which might be difficult. Thank you anyway - Maria
