I couldn't get the other link to work so I hope this works. I've never made this technique but its cute.
Oh I see the coasters are in this technique on the other link

Hi keeponsewing,
I love your idea of using 3-dimensional cloth to help slow down the burp spit up - brilliant!
Would you mind tell me how you go about doing this, please?
My Pastor's wife is due in mid February, and I would love to make her some burp cloths.
Would you teach me, please?
thank you

In the past I made 'chenille' on a normal sewing machine. You stitch parallel lines on several (5-7 in my case) layers of fabric and afterwards cut all layers except the bottom one between the lines. That's it. There is a special rotary cutter available; it has a long and narrow extension under the blade which is shoved between the bottom layer and the rest. Easier on the hands than scissors.
Once digitised an embroidery machine is fast and gives more accurate distances. Process is the same.

And you can make them raggy on both sides by leaving the middle layer as the foundation layer.
Thanks martine for answering this. They are very easy to do and the PDF instructions are easy to follow on FSF. I have done this on regular sewing machine, but this other was quicker and faster, however the down side to this was I was limited to the size due to my hoops. :) BTW Nanette, You can also make these into rugs too.
They look soft. 5 star fonts, perhaps?
