Found this Meganne, when I googled it as I was interested to find out more
Alcohol as a glaze - Many people will mix the alcohol with a little powdered confection sugar and make a rich glaze that is poured over the top of the cake when it's still warm from the over. The alcohol glaze will seal in the moisture and seep into the cake, adding to the flavor. An alcohol glaze is also a great preservative for a fruitcake.
When the fruitcake is completely cool take a cheesecloth and soak it thoroughly in the alcohol. Wrap the fruitcake in the cloth and then cover the whole thing with tin foil or plastic wrap. The cheesecloth will preserve the cake for up to three years or longer if you store the cake in a cool, dry place.
this explains all

Thanks Edith, I did read that one but I'm not good at guessing quantities when I haven't made something before. Maybe I'd better just leave well enough alone until I can practice making a glaze and know what quantities to use. LOL!
Merry Christmas hugs n wishes, Meganne
Wouldn't last three weeks let alone three years! Any fruit cake can come my way. ElizabethAK
Your cake looks fantastic Meganne, but never heard of an alcoholic glaze even though my friends consider me the queen of puddings lol. Hope someone else can help
Merry christmas edith
Thanks Edith, I have so many cook books but don't feel like searching through them all, I'll never get to bed. :-)))

Nice job but I'll pass, lol. Just pour a bottle of whiskey over it and nobody will care, lol. Just kidding Meganne, I'm sure it is very tasty!
hahahaha! I've already poured extra brandy over it and it does taste yummy. :-)

Meganne, this one looks good enough to actually eat, as I am not one that cares for this kind of cake....
can't help with glaze either.....but Merry Christmas and thank you for your conversion work that you did with AngelBaby's designs......now I can do it myself.
Oh that is wonderful that you have learned how to convert design formats, but it was my pleasure to help out. The cake is actually quite yummy even though it was cooked a little late in the season. better late than never i suppose. :-))
Merry Christmas hugs n wishes, Meganne
I can't help - but the cake sure looks wonderfully yummy and so pretty.
Thanks Shirlene, I'm not much good at icing cakes but I can at least decorate with nuts and cherries. I just don't eat the cherries, YUK! LOL!!!!
