I THINK I CAN SPEAK FOR LOT OF SOUTH AFRICANS, SPECIALLY WHERE I AM,DURBAN, "THE SUN NEVER SETS" RIGHT NOW IT IS THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS AND OUR CITY HAS ALL THE HOLIDAY MAKERS HERE, OUR BEACH IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO BE, WE SOMETIMES HAVE 3 SEASONS IN ONE DAY, IT SNOWS IN OTHER PARTS OF SOUTH AFRICA BUT NOT IN DURBAN, ITS ALWAYS WARMER HERE, EVEN IN WINTER, ITS WARMER THEN OTHER PARTS OF S.A. IS IT AFRICAN VIOLETS YOU HAVE THERE SUE? LOVE THEM, IT LOOKS BEAUTIFUL.

Its not a African violet, the UK weather is not up to growing them outside

It is a wild "Sweet Violet". They are very tiny and smell wonderful. I have the African type inside on my kitchen windowsill!

Yes, it's trying to give you a false impression.lol. We have a covering of snow as the little we have gotten has melted as we've had +6 C for sev. days. Today it's a little cooler. (Alberta, Canada) Was really nice weather for xmas. I'm sure we're gonna pay for it later - January's coming!

I have not looked for spring flowers in my garden but there are geraniums, fushias and assorted flowers still blossoming

How lovely! This morning when I went outside to walk the dog, I had ice on my car! This is the 1st time this year. The weather reports this morning was warning early drivers to careful of ice on bridges and off ramps. I am NOT looking forward to another icy winter like we had last year!!! My bones hurt too bad when it is cold. We had a few weeks last winter that I could not get warm no matter how high I turned the heat or how I tried to dress warm! I normally like cold weather better than the hot but last yr was an exception! I think last yr was a record low temps with ice and snow that wrecked havoc on the highways because here in the SOUTH," Atlanta area", we see very little snow, sleet or ice! No one has chains for their tires and we (the city)did not have the equipment to keep the roads scraped! The interstates were closed for several days last winter and businesses were closed. The grocery store shelves were picked bare with no bread, milk, sandwich meat, or the necessary things that you need when snowed in! Life in Atlanta as we all know it just stopped for several days! Of course it was just as bad further south also during that time. Lines were down all over the state and people had no electricity for a couple of days. It got a bit crazy around here. I had one Pekingese that kept wanting to go outside and check it out but as soon as her tiny hinny got cold she would head for the house! The other dog in the house refused to go out the door! They were funny! The weather was NOT!

We've had a few icy mornings here, but this time last year we had had nearly 2 feet of snow on the ground for a month!

The weather has been strange here as well, but my bulbs aren't showing more than green beginnings. November was the dry-est since they started recording, December promises to be one of the wettest ever. So for my bulbs it's a matter of swim or drown.

i still have marigolds in flower and the forsythia is full of colour and i can still pick some small carrots for tea. and this year my Camelia is full of buds so i will have to pop a cover over it to save it from the frost.
I treated myself to three new type Buddlias these are the ones with several colour in each flower head and they are coming along nicely now with just the one casualty that got broken but is trying to put out new growth allready.
at least it saves on the heating bill but lets be aware we have january and february to get through yet, annie in the UK

amazing Sue, I was glad not to go to the UK for once for christmas as I was worried about the snow and ice we have experienced the last few years lol, well here we are instead it is such good weather and saves you all on heating too. Me as well lol as we heat a house there. Here in spain we are having the best winter for 17 years and just glorious sun most days. Only rained when our son came lol, he seems to attract the rain. Hope it stays, but will need some rain for the water supply and the garden. Happy new year to you and all cuties. hugs edith.
