OK So I watched the tutorial and tried it on a single thickness of scrap fleece. Maybe my slits are too big or my tabs are not uniform enough but I did not care for the end result. Maybe I will try it again with two layers and see if more bulk will look better. What I did with this one didn't look as good as the picture.
My Great Grand-son has one with wild animals on it that was store bought. I was amazed when I inspected it. Both sides were cut the same size and the animals are exactly even and running the same way and there is not a stitch on it! The fringe was tird in knots all of the way around it and when you handled the blanket, the fleece was stuck together. it did not slip or slide at all. It is a good grade of fleece and it has been washed and washed and still looks new. I did see the post with the braided edges and I did not like it especailly after inspecting the one my Brayden has with the knotted fringe! He drags it all over the house along with a couple more blankets to build forts. The two boys will get in the forts and play for hours! Sometimes they call them forts and other times they are barns. That is according to what toys they have out playing with.
TIED in knots and the two sides did not slip or slide. It has been washed many times and looks the same as it did when it was new. I like it much more that the one I saw online that was braided.
Thank you Chris and justonlyme and all who responded to my question. Is there any question that Cuties, as a group, don't have an answer for? Nebraskaviews is the site that I saw it on. Flowers for all.
this is a very nice idea for quick blankies. Thanks for the suggestions all the Cuties. Have a lovely day.
Yes, I have done a few of those with both fleece and t-shirt knit. Fold over the edge and snip a little bit, so that you have a slot instead of cutting all the way through. Do this all the way around your fleece pieces, with them stacked together, so that you are snipping both at the same time. Then, use a large crochet hook to "crochet" all the way around. You will just reach through one and pull the loop beside it through. Do that all the way around. Then secure the last one with a quick stick with needle and thread. I would highly recommend trying this with a scrap so that you know how large of slits to make, and then get the technique down. If you don't understand, feel free to PM me and I can post a picture tutorial. It is lots of fun and has a very unique look when finished!!
Oops. I just realized that pennifold already posted the tutorial. I would still do a test run so you like the results before starting with your project.
From what I remember, Pauline (Nonna 57) tried that and totally didn't like the end result, neither did I when I saw it. But I see Chris has come to your rescue.
Hugs n roses, Meganne
Hi Meg. You are right this is the one i did and NO NO NO i did not like it. But then mabey i was doing it wrong. Godd luck whoever attempts it. :)
There is also a blanket on this site. Love Chris
Thanks for the link Chris.
I'll send it to 2 ladies I know.My brain just can't grasp it anymore.
Yes Marthie did them. If you send her a PM she will tell you all about them.
Love Chris
PM marthie all in lower case.
Thanks for this! I did not save the site the last time I saw it. I still like the knots better but for a female, the braided edges might look better. I was going to do the boys one for Christmas until I found out just how many they already had!
