Sad Day at the Adelaide Zoo last Tuesday 27th. "Chook" the Australian Lyre Bird passed away. Have a look at Chook on YouTube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=We... A lot of the sounds are from when the New Panda Enclosure was being built. RIP Chook.

I saw yesterday at one of the Australian zoos a crock pulled a lawnmower into its pond and it took two keepers to get it out! How many zoos are there in Australia, and which one was associated with Steve Irwin? I was a huge fan, and still miss him terribly. The world, and the animals, lost a wonderful man that day. What is the status of his family now? We don't hear much here.....

The Irwins are from Australia Zoo in Queensland. There are many zoos in Australia

Ahhh. That is so sad. As I was playing the video, my African Grey, Mac, was intrigued and tried to make the sounds! I'm sharing it on Facebook. Find me there Jan Wharton.

Oh no, I just lost a whole hour checking out all the Lyrebird videos on Youtube - they are amazing!

Some of the videos on youtube are a hoax especially in the Lyre Bird section.

Well didn't I have to go look up the Lyrebird in Wikipedia... what an interesting species of birds! I watched the Youtube video and it was amazing... I even heard parts of human conversation in its repertoire. Loved the plumage display, too. Thanks for sharing, Chris!

Apparently Chook was not interested in the females Lyrebirds and only humans. Pity!

That's sad. Cheetah from the old Tarzan movies passed away yesterday at the age of 80!

Apparently he was 32 years old. Not sure how long they usually live.

That is sad. I'm going to download some of the ring tones.
He sure was a great mimic. The sounds of the kookaburra, the electric saw and then a manual saw, just amazing.

Viewed the video and he was a real character of imitating. Those were some impressive tail feathers he showed for part of the video. The zoo and visitors will miss the little chatty guy.
