I hide snack foods, coz the sons in my house mow through the lot if they find everything straight away. Trouble is I often forget where I've put them and will find them months later, LOL. Good hiding places are often where the cleaning equipment is, LOL. They're never going to go there...
My late husband used to hide the chocolates. If I knew where they were they should be eaten straight away, but if I didn't see then it didn't bother me. He would sneak one every so often.
You don't have sons do you? One of mine (20yo) decided to 'clean' in the loungeroom recently. Tossed out so many of my UFO's. Half made Secret Stash hangers x 2 or 3, for e.g. Mother was not happy. Luckily they were in a bag with all other fabric and sewing projects so didn't eand up with teabags or suchlike over them. Ho hum. Funny when I clean in his room it's just actual rubbish that I toss out. I must be doing things wrong...
after reading all these i said to my hubby see i told you iam normal i think he,s still laughing ...
Can I relate, this year I decided to start my xmas shopping early and even though my children no longer live at home I figured I should hide them (just in case). That should have been my first clue that this was not a good idea, they visit maybe once a week, what are the chances, anyway.....
Well when it came time to wrap, I was braindead and out to lunch, could not find half of what I had bought. It took me just as long to find what I had bought as it did to buy them originally, so much for saving time in the hectic stores, I figure next time I will have to make a journal of where I hid stuff but I am afraid I will forget where I put the journal, LOL
hugs
Michelle
I bought a birthday present for a friend last week then who should show up on the doorstep while I was thinking where to put it. I grabbed the first 'junk mail' I could find and the sticky tape and wrapped it. I hope I remember what it is when it's time, LOL.
These answers are great!! Enjoyed reading them.
My very favorite salt shaker was in my kitchen last Friday. Saturday it was gone and has yet to surface. I have had it for about 30 years and can't believe it is gone. I am blaming it's disappearance on my husband. (ha) :)
Marcelle
Now, that sounds very familiar. Did some bowling towels for my husband's club, and now can't find them. Have to sort through all the tons (LOL) in my work room Hehehe. So, I am also normal, Yippee. Good luck in finding them.***
Why don't we all get together - pile everything in one big pile and I am sure everything will sort themselves out.
Well....... I've read all the messages and I can go back to bed happy. I've decided I'm normal after all.
AlmaG.
Hmm If I'm honest, I don't loose that much, always lay things where they are supposed to be laid, but my daughter....never put things on its place ; and then ofcourse the discussion starts : Mum where did YOU put that item ? ....I 'm sure YOU where the one who last used it.....sounds familiar to someone ? ?
I have no one else to blame, but I can only imagine I must have fairies who hide things from me.
I have a family friend who had the bad luck to have her house burn down twice!! Well she can spend a day searching for something that she rarely uses and then suddenly remember that item was lost in the first fire!
I agree with you 100%. Everytime I put something in a safe place I can never find the safe place. If I pile things in my sewing room I know exactlly where everything is at.
I sew in front of the TV in my lounge. Have things scattered all around me and on any spare chair. Have completed what I was doing so have to tidy again.
It happens to me too and it's clear that it's all due to (whispering) old age! I remember vividly some episodes of when I was very little, 3 or 4 yo but not what I wanted to take from a room I just entered. Hugs, Lidia
I don't agree that it is old age. I think that we are so busy we just forget.
I know exactly how you feel. The little crochet angels I made as christmas gifts were supposed to have something different to the little hearts I put on them. Still haven't found the original things but I can use them for something else one day if they ever show up again.
Don't worry, they will be there for next Christmas and you won't have to make them again. This is what I tell myself.
My Grandmother always expounded (with the emphasis on POUNDED) "A place for everything and everything in its place" and this is what I have always lived by, I could walk through any room in my home, in total darkness, and lay my hands, immediately on anything you'd care to name.
BUT!!!!! That was before Ray. Ah yes, he does have a fault. (but only one, LOL!!!)
Ray never puts things back where he found them and he drives me insane because you can bet if he has lost something, it will be something of mine.
So what does he do? He goes to the store and buys a temporary CHEAPER version until the original item is found.
Now this wouldn't be so bad if we were millionaires and we had a Mansion, with lots of cupboards, in which to store things.
But we aren't and we don't!
Yet since we bought this new home and I have been unpacking EVERYTHING WE OWN, trying desperately to find places for everything.....
Not only can I not find ANYTHING I'm searching for, but I find 5, 6 or more of the same items I didn't even know we had!!!!! And there are dozens of double-ups; triple-ups and quadruple-ups of so many THINGS I just want to put a match to the lot of it and start fresh!!!!!
I've had it with STUFFFFF!!!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHH!
Has anyone seen my garden secateurs?
Ray had them last.
They're not on top of the outdoor fridge where I keep them?
Anyone?
Oh look here come those men in those long white coats, No! Wait! Not ME! He lost them...............
If you were a millionaire, you would not be on here or even stitching as someone else would be doing it for you. -- How boring. Would you like to come and stay for 6 months? With you in my house it would be suprising what we could find.
I think as we get older, we have a harder time remembering where we put something..My daughter called today and wanted to borrow our TENS Unit for her husband because his back went out at work... and do you suppose we could find it... my husband and I tore apart our whole house looking for it, and finally after an hour we finally found it... and this is just one example of the times we cannot find something.... Lord help us... we need it
I have put things away years ago and I could still tell you that Item is. I have too many items and not enough homes for them.
I have this problem DAILY. We must be related. They call me Joann-Loses-A-Lot.
Half the time it's easier for me to go to the store and buy another whatever than to search the house for the one I have.
Lyn, I certainly know your problem, I gave my DIL a robe for her birthday and said choose something for me to embroider on the back that was 12mths ago, she gave me the robe for save keeping she has now decided on the design and as I have put it away safely I cannot locate it now that I have time to do it...have been through all the places I would have put it to no avail...ohhhhhh well I do have another one so will do that one for her...whoa is me...you are so right do not tidy up...Hugs Sally
At least when I do find my missing towel toppers I won't have to do any for a while. Are you sure your robe is not with my towel toppers and my missing glasses??
In my life, Murphy's Law never seems to let me down. If I lose something and then start looking for something else- I find the first thing I was looking for! Of course it is never when I needed it :)
I have lost a full set of knitting needles and a full set of crochet needles. Must be in this house somewhere.
Thats why I have a finished items clear large plastic bin with a label on it. I have made things that I swear that little brownie come and steal, lol. Now that I have a special box for them, I don't lose finished items as much, but I', not sure where all the other stuf that disappears goes. Must be the brownies again. I FINALLY found the heavy duty metal flash light I misplaced several months ago. I found it by accident, and I would never have thought to look where it was, it must have fallen in the box I found it in, because I would never have put it there. It was in the box of old newspapers we use to start fires in the wood stove, lol!
If I had done the sensible thing I would have put the towel toppers with the towels, but that was just too simple.
Believe me, you will find them when you are looking for something else, never fails...I've found stuff I thought was lost forever...lol
SO many times that...I am now absolutely crazy!!;>) ha ha! I agree, it is annoying, especially after you put in the time to tidy up! Worst of all, I always find the things I am looking for after I needed them! I am going to start making a list of where I have put them...but then, where do I put the list?;>)
Only problem with this - When you cleam up suddenly you don't always make a list, or if you do, you then lose the list.
Yes, right before Christmas I bought my one cat a few toys, gave her 2 and put one away for after Christmas and now I have looked in every drawer and cabinet and can't find it at all! I do that a lot!
OMG, if only that was where it was! It had catnip in it so I made sure it wasn't in something the cats could open so you never know! Thanks, I'll go look there!
I just had to lol and remember reading an article, of course I lost it, but found another on the subject of the time people spent looking for lost things. This is a copy and paste: In John Ortberg's book When the Game Is Over It All Goes Back in the Box, and in James Gleick's 1999 book Faster, we spend sixteen minutes a day (roughly one year of our lives) looking for lost possessions.
Meanwhile, according to a study conducted by a Boston Marketing firm, the average American burns 55 minutes a day looking for things they know they own but cannot find. That adds up to a total of almost 14 days a year people spend just trying to find lost things.
A survey by the holiday company Ocean Village claims that we clock in 31 minutes a day hunting for lost things - remote controllers (5 minutes), keys (10 minutes), socks and shoes (7 minutes), lottery tickets (4 minutes) and passports (1 minute) and 17 minutes shouting "you had it last".
I was given a lottery ticket for Christmas (I actually know where it is) butI haven't checked it off yet. I know I didn't win the 31 million but the winners got over $900,000.00 each. Would love to be one of those, but am not holding my breath.
Wow do I relate to this.
One of my problems happens when I'm cleaning up and I put it all in a box or bag and tell myself I'll get back to it later. That's right I forget where I put the bag or someone just threw it out.
Well ladies I have misplaced my rotary cutter in this room. I refuse to buy another. I have been
waiting for 6 months for it to show up. I really need it to cut fleece. I bought a container to put
the cutter in and also scissors. It's lost also.
lol olds/Maureen
Maureen, this has made me laugh, I keep intending to tie my small sewing scissors to something that doesnot move so I WILL know where they are
I have lost the card to my machine! I know it's here somewhere, buried under the debris in my sewing room. Can still use a usb, but still . . .
I have a cutter somewhere but I don't use it so it is not bothering me.
OLDS - Why not make some of the scissor keepers from DBC and then hang them around your neck or onto your machine.
Well you have a good idea! I tried to download the scissor designs. Guess what
none came in ART3. I must be JINXED!
olds/Maureen
I always try to have a shelve for items that I have made - that will be gifted later - I use it for nothing else - so once you find them - perhaps you can find a shelve or drawer that will be for that purpose and later when you clean up in a hurry - you will put them there - hopefully.
Great idea, but I usually put everything together as I make them then they go into my market bags.
I have this problem, especially if I think I've found a better place for it and then moved it. It's so frustrating when you know you have something and can't find it.
Especially when you remember the first place you put that item. I can also relate to this.
I am exactlly the same way. I can remember the first place and then wish I'd never moved it.
I keep asking myself, "If you were sensible where would you have put them?. I can't find them so I think that speaks for its self???????????????????????
Do let us know where those towels were hidden when you find them. We are all anxious to find out where they were. Juanita
I like this but I have started a clear up so I think I will finish off and see if I can remember where I have rehomed stuff
I have bought so much elastic and when I need it, the fairies have hidden it again. So I have to go and buy somemore.
