Yes, and a timely reminder, too. This happened to me with less thread but just as big a fright when I began ME. That's when I began to use nets on my spools but I've getting lazy lately. This reminder will certainly spark me into action to be more vigilant and careful.

You got lucky on getting it fixed without damage or shop repair time. Now I'm going to make sure to be very careful about keeping threads to close to the machine.
I did that!~ I froze the machine, couldn't make it continue to sew...it would go 20 stitches and stop, do it again, then again. I was frustrated, took it to sewing doctor. He didn't even pause when I gave him the symptoms, he popped the cap off and showed me all the pretty red thread! I was very embarrassed, as I have been sewing for 60 years, and never had that happen! We laughed, I went home and moved my thread rack! Linda
not had that happen , but did turn a RA large cone of rayon thread up side down and it pooled on me. I had heard post of threads pooling , now I know what that term means. I tried to salvage what I could but I cried. Kay
Nice catch ! I never have had this happen to me YET !! but I did come home to a cat tangled up in a spool of blue thread a large cone I had just got in the mail and half of it was waisted , I wanted to kill the cat but she was in enough pain with thread everywhere she almost lost her tail it was so tight the vet had to cut it off of her tail after shaving her , was a mess. so NO KITTIES in the sewing room
You must put this story in words. You probably have it published , maybe in a vet's mag.
Glad your machine is ok! Hopefully after reading this I will be sure & catch the thread tails soon as I take a spool of the machine...or at least sit it WAY WAY, far away from the machine if I plan on using it again in the design!!
I sure am glad you did not damage your machine. I will be sure and keep the thread tails short. Thank you for forwarning us on this. Hugs, Mary
When I bought my embroidery machine, the gal who was ahead of me in line had her machine in for repair. That had happened to her. But she was using the giant cones of thread, and had left her machine to run. She came back in and the thread had been emptied from the cone on to the flywheel of her machine. It created so much friction that it had burned a hole in to the side of her machine (melted the plastic casing, and the motor was smoking. It was pretty amazing. I'm sure that was a very costly blooper. So right from the get-go, I knew to keep stray threads away from the machine!!
Yes, it has happened to me. I lost 1/2 a large spool of yellow thread that way. Didn't think I would ever get all of it out of the machine. I remember that every time I use yellow !! You have to laugh at life !
The other day I got caught in a thread and the thread should not have been where it was. When I searched I realised it must have attached itself to my dog and naturally she had wandered all around the house. Great way to waste thread.
I'm sorry...however, it did give me a giggle. I could just see you following the thread all over the house!
This happened to DHDon once. When he had followed the thread to its source there was a lathe for his birthday, waiting for him.

i did have a chuckle too you see this sort of thing in the movies...lol...soozie
OH NO!! My friend keeps extra filled bobbins on her spool pins on the machine and the thread she is using on a thread rack. The tread from the rack picked up the tails of the bobbin threads and pulled them into her take-up leaver until the machine was completely frozen up! Yep! You gotta watch those tails!
YIKES!!! Glad nothing was damaged. Hope you had a wonderful beginning of a New Year. Hugs, Terre
I'm glad there was no damage done to your machine or yourself. Your pride may have been wounded but your fingers are still intact. lol. Take care
Bev
I did that once and thats all it took to learn my leason. Keep thread away from the flywheel
