I have just purchased a new long sleeved T shirt and want to sew out the Urban threads red wings on it, How do i do it without cutting the fabric. . i have ball point needles and will be useing plain red thread. I have different stabilisers. so perhaps some one will help me out on this one

I told a friend i was going to do this and she asked if i didn't think i was a bit too old at 65 for that kind of stuff.
I told her i was getting into practise by haveing them on my back before i get the real ones, she informed me she still thought i was too old. Ok she is only 30
and for those who have seen Mrs browns boys you will understand when i smiled at her and told her "Thats nice".
for an explanation of this please PM me

Hi Annie,

Whenever I sew any purchased T-shirt I always undo the threads on one of the side seams. When finished I use my overlocker to sew the seam back! Love Chris

Listen up girlies, I worked at a Senior Apt. Complex for three years and one lady that lived there was 97 or 98 and one sunny day she was sitting out under the canopy at the front door and I walked by and she had propped her feet up and pulled her dress way above her knees to get some sun on her legs. It was so good to see her not afraid to be herself. I am 61 but I don't feel like I am old. Live life to the fullest for one day you will not be able to. Who ever said that we have to wear granny clothes and shoes that lace up with our hair wound up in a bun on the back of our heads like our grandmothers did. Life is short, enjoy it while you can. Sorry did not mean to get carried away. Have fun, be yourself.

Old is relative. I'm sorry she said that. But, I'm with everyone else - you're not too old!

I didn't know who or what Mrs Brown's Boys were, so I looked them up. Spent the last 30 minutes on Youtube watching videos. I did know who she was! I saw the Bikini Wax episode! Too funny! Thanks for the laugh! When is it on, anyway? I (unfortunately) don't keep track of TV enough to know what is on, when. When/if I sit down to the TV I just channel surf till I find something. But THAT I would set a timer for. Thanks again for the distraction and the laugh!!

You have sound advice on the T-shirt!! Since when is 65 old? My Aunt lived to 100 and she was "with it" to the very end. I think anything after 100 is just beginning to get old. Hugs, Laura*

I do my T-shirts the same way as Betty, works very nicely - I use Sulky Self-Adhesive, Tear Away Stabilizer ...no seams to stitch back up ...

Find the center of where you want the design first. Flip your shirt inside out. Use cutaway stabilizer in frame. Spray a sticky spray on the stabilizer. Lay your shirt on the sticky with the side you want the design on DOWN. Use your hands to smooth shirt and make sure it is "stuck" to the stabilizer. Move the top part of the shirt out of the way (I use pins)and stitch your design. Betty

Too old?!!! Since when has having a sense of whimsey limited to an age set? I offer "The Calender Girls" as an example of how age has nothing to do with much of anything. Please post pictures of your wings when you get them done. I'd love to see them.

thanks Sue and i bet you have not seen Mrs Browns boys or you would have realised the meaning when she says "thats nice" with a big grin, (this was after her elecution lessons)lolol
ok have the design on the usb for the machine. i will cut the shirt open as i have a serger so can re do no problem and it will make it easier too, have flipped the design so have left and right wing.
I will wear it when i go out with my daughter. just let her see the front till we get to the shops.
Youth only happens to you one time
at least thats what i was told
if you should miss it in your young time
HAVE IT WHEN YOUR OLD
Oh its so true.. revenge is a sweet best served cold. what i had to put up with in her teen years with punk hair and chains, this is total justice as she is now dresses "just so"
watch out world Mommas on the loose. LOL
i will see if i can get a photo when its done for you to laugh at.

Tell your friend where to go. Growing up is not compulsory.(Unfortunately, getting old is.)
I often cut up the side seam to embroider a t-shirt. However, I have sometimes managed to get it in the hoop and still be able to get at it if I have the bottom of the shirt at the top of the hoop. (Don't forget to turn the design over though!)
I've had success with iron on tear away stabiliser (making sure it covers the whole area in the hoop.) We simply don't have the huge choice here in the UK that others enjoy.
Hope that helps.
