Where do you live???? Or at least what country?
I do patch work and have scraps. Would be happy to share if postage isn't too high.
I don't know of any fabric swaps.
I'm in Michigan in the USA. I could either swap with you or pay postage!
I just wanted to clear up a bit about my post. I wanted to know if anybody knows of a fabric swap. I wasn't asking for free fabric. That being said, I know from another board that some poeple toss out or pass on scraps that are too small for them to use but others may be able to find a use for. I can use anything 1 inch or over. Either for string quilts or for applique. Hugzzz, Linda
Location would be helpful --- where would we send these? I love string quilts and the thousands of ways to use them. I kind of collect pictures of them. Bonnie Hunter runs a great site -quiltville and you can see some there and more places to check out. Some people have even made fabric from strips and then cut out their shapes - ie houses, triangles. I like to make diamond star points by paper piecing them. They look so good with bright solid background squares and triangles.
The ideaof shopping in your wardrobe for fabric is a good one. I lucked out and visited goodwill the day they had short sleeve men's shirts 4 for a $1!! All cotton, XLG and plaids I liked. What a deal.
let us know where you live and you will probably get "squishy's" very soon. (The envelope will be squishy ..)
don't know why the pictures aren't showing up. They appeared to upload just fine. There was an apron made of strings!!
hagridsmom, Those pics are great! I really like the black quilt! I have been to quiltville site. Some good ideas there. I'll share my address in a PM.
where do you live Linda? ~ San
I live in Michigan in the USA. Where are you located? Do you want to swap some strips of fabric? If so I would rather only put my address in a pm.
I find dressmaking fabric hard to find here in the UK so when my granddaughter's dolly needed some clothes I tided up my own wardrobe!! A couple of blouses and a nightie I no longer wear made dresses and nightwear for dolly. She even got a new coat out of an old curtain that had faded at the edges but was perfect in the middle.
I actually do have some of my old clothes that don't fit set aside to remake into doll clothes. They aren't all cotton fabric so don't want to use them in the quilts.
how wide are the strips needed to be,
surely if several cuties cut or ripped a strip and posted it to you if for a good cause then you would soon have enough. annie in the uk
Annie and Lulu, I'll use anything 1" or wider. I'm willing to swap fabric with you just let me know what you'd like. I would only want to share my address in a PM though.
I wanted to add that I want to make a couple of those quilts for my DMIL's church and an auction my DD's church has each year as a fundraiser.
