We've dreamt of growing cycads. We bought some seeds a long, long time ago. Not sure Mount Gambier is the right place to nurture them. We have a prehistoric pine tree on the go now, though, and it beginning to look as though it will survive.
Your cycad palms look beautiful.

I really love these plants but they are protected in the bush, so they are difficult to come by.
Some years ago a friend gave me seeds from his plants and I managed to grow four of them.
They look lovely in large pots.
hugs n roses, Meganne
They are protected but these were bought a long time ago with the appropiate tags attached & now tree ferns ,sagos ,birdnests etc pop up in the strangest places
Well we have a sago palm and come to think of it I have seen these blooms. I just didn't realize that there was a male and female plant. Thanks for the education.
WOW NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS IN MY COLD BUSH LOL WERE DO YOU LIVE???i LOVE THE PICS THANK-YOU HUGS
the tall bloom is a male and the other one is female.. the seed pods in the female and very toxic to your pets.. do not let dogs get these.. I have a male plant .. If I had a female I would remove it , just because I have three little Doxies that think every thing belongs in their mouths..
This part of the backyard is fenced off so the dogs couldn't go down there without supervision But our new puppy Cherrie thinks everything belongs in her mouth too.
These plants must be at least 5ft wide & nearly as high with sharp edges on the fronds
we live on the coast.. but in California, Oceanside about 1 mile from the Ocean and these grow like crazy here also.. and they are all over.. mine is about 25 years old and has bloomed once .about the same size as yours ,they are a slow grow..
