I love doing freestanding lace bowls and doilies. It takes longer that ordinary embroidering because of stitch count, but you have a stunning product that nobody else has, either to have or to sell. Even as gifts, these are supurb and nothing looks so elegant than a lace bowl filled with delicious choccies on your coffee table when company comes. Hang in there, don't rush and it will be a success..Good luck!!****
don't they get things done fast, I'm still thinking about things. Maybe tomorrow.LOL
I stitch the bowl in a day ,dry it all night ,then show and sew it the next morning .They are a lot of stitches and no i run only one machine hugs carolyn
Well I can't be too bad then. I just don't get around to stitching them together.
Good! Nice to know there are others that are slower in getting their projects done! Seems some have a bunch done all the time. One of my problems is I am now getting asked for something specific and I have to look for it as I don't have everything filed and then to figure out (by of course coming to cute and seeing what and how everyone does certain things - don't even usually have to ask as someone already is). But, I do get there.
Please don't fret about this. To my knowledge it is not a race. There is no prize for the person who embroiders the most things. Enjoy what you do and show it off proudly. And FSL bowls do take a lot of time. I know, I just finished another one yesterday.
No I know it is not a race and I know some are a lot more experienced at making FSL than others.
I know where you are comming from with this post ! Some of you have 6 projects complete before I can get one started ! Admirations go out to all!
I have only one machine, and I think I lose much time in selecting the right colors for a design. Since I do not -yet- have all the necessary colors I sometimes needs to pick out different ones. And then I start thinking if it is a good color combination or not. Also I still lose a lot of time in hooping the material properly, central, in a good horizontal line,...
zoefzoef, you sound just like me! I spend what seems to be massive amounts of time on these same things.
Time not two machines can let you do more.Hugs Marie
If I had two machines I would be running from one to the other and cause more problems.
Just after my first answer to this post I found that on one machine I had failed to change the color when I started another set of blocks stitching. The colors are very close and I am finding it difficult to remember to change. Just goes to show that everyone is exactly right. When I try to do too many things at once I totally mess up something. Stitched about 1/4 of a block wrong so had to trash it. I never seem to learn. I must slow down myself.
Great post!! Everyone agrees slow is best.
Marcelle
I don't need two machines to mess up. Guess I am not the only one with some problems.
well, I have one machine, and it likes running medium or slow, so I never get things done quickly. Don't feel bad--I think there are a lot of us pokies out there. If I try to hurry, I make silly mistakes, and it isn't worth it.
Well, some of us are turtles and some of us are rabbits. I'm a turtle. Takes me forever to get stuff done. I think there are some of us that enjoy the process of creating, and others having the end product of your effort. As long as you are satisfied with what you are doing, everything is fine.
You remember who won the race between the turtle and the hare, slow but steady does it.
You aren't slow. FSL just takes time. The tablecloth I am working on may take me years. Twice I have had 3 machines going. I mostly use only 2 at the time though. It takes a lot of time to just keep up with hooping, bobbin changing and the many other issues that come up when using more machines so it didn't really speed up things much.
Having said that all my lace has been just flat items. I haven't been as brave as you and all these other Cuties that do bowls, angels, etc that then have to be put together. Hats off to you all!!
Don't feel discouraged. These machines can only sew just so fast and that's it. I often wish I could add a little speed but the finished product probably would not be too great. I have to remind myself that I must learn to have more patience.

I don't like bowls only because I never get them stitched together nicely either.
I can relate to this. Still learning takes so much time plus just the selection process is tough for me. Been working for 4 days on hair clippies!!!
Don't have a decent pair of them... yet.
Keep on plugging.
A bowl is not as simple as a one-piece FSL, of course it takes you more time, especially if you want to do it properly. Anyway, I'm not aware of any contest or award in Cute for the person who completes a project in record time! LOL... Embroidery is a hobby for me and many others and should be enjoyable and done when you feel like. Enjoy making your FSL bowl in your own time! :) Hugs, Lidia
I do embroidery also for my own enjoyment, but some of the projects have looked so good, I just had to try one.
Bowls and doilys take time to stitch out and dry. Ask me how I know. Not only do I have the hours invested that takes me to create a fsl design. Then I have to stitch it out. And I like to use my 6x10 hoop, so I am sitting for a long while. So don't feel guilty about the time it takes just enjoy the beautiful work you stitchout and sewn together and say I did this, it is beautiful.
Happy Stitching

The reason I don't like bowls and most doilies is the stitching together, as it never turns out just how I would like them.
Don't worry about being slow. Some Cuties have more time and when you rush that is when things break or go bad. Show us your bowl when finished
Bev
I can only go as fast as the machine. When I get around to finishing the bowl I MIGHT show it here.
You are definetely not talking about me! I best go check out projects and see who you are talking about! Live Laugh Download Stitch!
Well Lynn it takes me ages to get work done and I do have two machines but I dont have them on together very often
I am jealous of those with two or more machines, but where would I put the second and I have enough problems with one.
If your slow you are not the only one. I have several items stitched out but not put together get. There is always something else to do first.
Take care have a good evening. Shirley
I hate something beating me and wonder why I can do somethings so well and yet not others.
