We just can't seem to catch a break lately.

Ray and I have been really sick since Monday, some sort of virus that starts in the throat, which is so painful it even hurts to sneeze, then the chest, head, ears and nose all get involved and it just doesn't let up. I was on anti-biotics for my poisoned leg and THEY didn't even stop it.
NOW, today, we wake up to find Lady so weak in her back legs she keeps falling over.
I had noticed her reluctance to walk last night and checked her for ticks but couldn't find any.
This is so TOTALLY not Lady, she usually tears through the house and up and down the stairs like a 2 year old (dog), wherever I am she is right behind me, if not in front of me.
My first thought (last night) was a paralysis tick, even though I didn't find any on her, but she has worsened since then, so it's a mad dash to the Vet before he closes at midday.

After an hour of searching her, head to tail and everywhere in between, three of us could find no sign of a tick, but they're devilish little things, they can get into places we can't explore.
So the Vet had no option but to give her the tick treatment serum & a tick spot-on treatment and some anti-inflammatory meds in case it wasn't a tick.
Now the watching and waiting begins in earnest!
For the next 24 hours I can't let her out of my sight, can't let the cats anywhere near her because the spot-on is Toxic to cats and all three of them love to rub against her. We have to keep her as calm as possible.
At any other time that last instruction would be impossible, but she is definitely fighting something as she hasn't left her bed, beside me. I had to carry her up the stairs because she just stood and looked at them as if I had put Mt Everest in front of her. This is definitely not normal for my little Lady.

Please could you just say a little prayer for her, that whatever it is, she will overcome it?
Thank you all. hugs and blessings, Meganne

Hi Meganne, I am so sorry to hear about all the things that has happened to you, I had a long time when I could not come and talk to all, but now I am trying to catch up with all my friends. Did not get time to even send Christmas wishes this year.
So sad to see Lady (so cute) so sad and just lying, but I will pray for you and the little girl. They become such a part of us all, dont they. My baby was 1 year old on Friday. and I fret so when he is not well.
About the Virus. You must please rest a lot. I do not know if it can be the same, but in Nov. I had something like that. Very sore throat, sore every where, very weak. It took 3 weeks to feel like a person again, had to cancel 2weeks classes, because in the end, bed rest helped where medication did not.
I am praying for your whole house, hope you all feel on top of the world again soon.
Hugs and God bless
Marietta

Hi Meaganne.
Lady is so beautiful. So sad she's ill. Hope she'll get better soon. As for you and Ray, I see you have many CUTE doctors to help you with remedies. May I add a very important one? HONEY. It acts as an antibiotic. I peronally hate it. Too sweet for me. But for medicinal purpose, I will shut my eyes and swallow a teaspoonful a couple times a day. Also Chicken soup, not my favorite either, but has it's purpose for a cold. I make mine with lots of vegetables, cook some rice or noodles, or drink it plain.
Meaganne, please next time I read your post, I expect to hear you're all well and Lady is running around playing with the cats.
Blessings,
Rachel

She is a beauty! It is so hard when furbaby is not feeling good! So many things can happen so fast! They can not talk enough to tell us what is wrong...only that something is not right! Mine does talk to me very well but it is doggy talk that I have had to learn over the yrs, such as it is time to go outside or I am hungry or I want to play. Oh, and she also lets me know when the foster Min-Pin in into something.
As for you and Ray, I sure do hate to hear that the two of you are not well! You ended 2011 not doing great and started 2012 with several things going on that you could not control. I think we all need to remember to pray for you and the whole family! May all of this end well and everyone be back on top of everything very soon! You have such a trying time ahead of you and all of these "other things" are pulling your strength down. Please see your Dr as well as carrying the pets to the Vet! I do pray that you can get well in a hurry and that when you go in for the surgery/test to find out what is going on that you get nothing but good reports. Worry can zap you of your strength and make you sicker faster than most illness can! Please take care of yourself! Many blessings, Linda

That stuff is NASTY! I was ready to go to the surgeons to have the razor blades removed from my throat. I felt like a dragon! Took Vit C and Echinacea(4 tablets 4x a day) and came out of it pretty fast. Only lasted 4 days and my friends have had it for 3 weeks. Prayers for sweet Lady and you and Ray. Hang on! ;)

Meganne, what said news. I hope you all will be better soon. It is difficult when an animal gets sick, a person can still explain a bit how she/ he is feeling or where it hurts. With an animal you just notice, but it is hard to know exactly. Sending prayers and hugs, Linda

No, she has no other symptoms. It wouldn't be half as bad if it was the flu she had, Flu would not cause paralysis in the legs.

capoodle by capoodle 21 Jan 2012

Hope she did get poisoned somehow. How old is Lady?

capoodle by capoodle 21 Jan 2012

Should have been didn't get poisoned. If she fell and hurt her spine. Praying hard that she will be walking in the morning.

She is definetely looking sad and tired. Hope she gets better soon. I never heard of a paralysis tick.
Hang in there and sooner or later it will subside for all.

Ticks cause paralysis in dogs and if not treated by a vet, it is usually fatal.

That virus you have we are calling the crud over here Meg. I know all about it, had it, got better, relapsed, etc. Had to have 3 different antibiotics ea. for 14 days. All of this was prior to Christmas Just about everyone in the fmly has had to fight it and my nr. 1 daughter is now on her 3rd antibiotic. Seems you cannot get over it easily. It causes other infections, sinus, bronchitis, pneumonia & so on. Hope you get over it faster than we did. Lady looks so precious I hope she is better soon also/Lillian

Yup,
Our family had it in different states and so did we. My little niece ended up in the hospital for a day to rehydrate. Its nasty thats for sure.

meganne by meganne 20 Jan 2012

I rarely get sick Lillian, in fact I haven't had anything that lasted more than a day, in the last 11 years. I am really struggling with this and you're so right it is CRUDDY to say the least! Feel like I can't function at any level as my ears and head won't stop aching.

meganne by meganne 20 Jan 2012

won't stop aching.

pcteddyb by pcteddyb 21 Jan 2012

That is what they are calling it in Arizona too - "the crud" - and it is a good name. Mine started Tuesday with the throat - never had it ssssoooo painful. Good news is that part passes - to become either the head or the chest - or both!

Oh! my darlin' lady. Meg is right she is such a fireball! Runs around the whole time and the tail doesn't stop wagging. She looks so cozy in there Meg, I hope she stays still for you.

Hope you guys are feeling better too - I haven't caught it and I hope Pauline hasn't either. I hope by tomorrow she will be back to her old self.

Love and blessings Chris

Hopefully you two won't get it, I would never have gone ahead with Monday had I known how bad this virus is. I can't stop drinking cold water (yuk) even rubbing my throat with Vicks, (double yuk) LOL!!

pennifold by pennifold 21 Jan 2012

Ooh! I love Vicks vaporub on my chest etc. when I've got a cold. And I know how you hate water!!!!!! I on the other hand love it, but as you know it's got to be tap water. Hope you feel better real soon and Lady too. Love from me.
