I don't know how to convert from American dollars to Canadian, but here in Arkansas, I usually charge $1 per thousand stitches, and have for the last several years. Works great for monogramming, although with dense designs, I usually just get about half that much. I don't make much money, but it keeps me in thread and stabilizer. I'm thinking that I need to up my price a bit, though, since supplies have gone up.
your stockings are so cute. I love them. I would charge about 25 dollars. You have to count your time and all the supplies. The font you used is just adorable...what's it called and do you remember where you got it? Love it.
I think it depends on where you are! What the market will bear. I have a hard time selling things & I don't ask much for them either! So I give them away rather than drop the price...at least I give them to folks I know! I usually try to stay around 80 cents per 1000 as that's about all the folks will pay around here. However, if the people wanting to buy the stockings work outside the home, it is probably well worth it to them to have someone make something personal for them!! Let us know how it goes!
Rita, these are lovely - will she be providing the material for the stockings or are the pre-made? I would have a set price for a stocking with just the name embroidered on it and then a price for any additional stitching or design at the bottom and it would depend on if there was also letting in the design - I really can't see you doing anything similair to these for less than $20-25.
If you try Buzz Tools, there is a project manager for estimating costs of embroidery work for just this purpose. I believe others programs also include this. Check them out on the www. Also, Sewforum may have a group that discusses topics like this; look at the Board Index at that site. Good luck, they look lovely!!...it is easy to see why she wants you to do these for her!
Thanks for all your input, everyone. I was really hoping to get a more concrete answer, though. I read somewhere that some people charge per 1,000 stitches ($5 - $10). This seems more fair for everyone as what one person may say is quite a dense design, the other person may not.
What do you think a fair price would be to charge?
Wow they are Cute! I think by the stocking is close enough if you factored in all your costs. christine
Chris (pennifold) gave a reasonable price to charge. You have to factor in your time and supplies so custom made is more personalized and special than a store bought one.
Hi quiltingqueen, First of all can I ask what your name is - where do you live and what is your birthday? Sorry about asking this but as we can't access the avatars I like to have the information on my list of Cuties. With regard to the stockings, I charged $25.00 for heavily embroidery ones and $20.00 for not so embroidered. Love Chris
