Well I did it, pics of my very first quilt for the Uganda project. I know this should be posted in projects but I wanted to show the quilt from different sides and so please excuse my posting it here.

I have to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Jan. I cannot tell you how gratifing this experience was, more than anything I have ever made for a paying customer. I had never done anything like this and coming from a family of quilters, it was definetly on my "to do list". I took this on as though I was going on safari. First I had to make sure I had my weapons, rotary cutter, t-square, grid board, fabrics (can you beleive I had everything here) etc. Once that was established, had to make a plan on how to put this together, done. Then it was the thrill of the hunt, had to find my designs and then I was off to the execution. It went pretty well, there are a few little things that I did not consider (like my lines lining up in the center block) but when I consider that I have never done this before I am REALLY pleased with the outcome. The wording in the middle panel says "GOOD NIGHT" and I decided to place Megannes sweet little elephant in underneath. So I hope you all like it as much as I do. I will post in projects as well that way you can zoom it and see the designs better.
Hugs to Jan and to all of you,
Michelle

I've just found The Ten Minute Blocks on You Tube myself. Isn't it a good technique. Your selection of designs are very good, did you embroider them first before you made the block? that's what I'm going to try. Jan

Hi Jan,

No I made all the blocks and then it was easier for the design placement, I thought it would be hard to know just where to put them
otherwise,
Thanks

Thank you Jacqueline,
Most of the images stitched out so well, the animals, elephant, monkey and giraffe almost look real.

Great job. I find quilt making to be one of the most gratifying and relaxing activities possible. I like your use of the bow tie block in this quilt; you achieved a very unified design. This is something to be proud of!! :)

I did not know that it was a bow tie block, thanks for the info. This one was definitely gratifying (relaxing not so sure LOL) and a challenge I enjoyed.
Thanks and hugs

Very nice! I just turned 65 in Dec. I have been sewing since I was a teenager and even made my 1st wedding dress for a customer(not paying) when I was just 19. I always tried anything I came across but I have never even thought about doing a quilt! I did buy some material to make one out of , at someone's suggestion but never tried! I used the material but not on a quilt! I always told myself that I did not have the time to get that involved so just never got around to it. I admire anyone that tries and this turned out just great!

Thank you,
My mom and both my grandmothers were quilters and funny thing is, when I was looking through my stash to choose fabrics, I came across some (I used for the backing) that I had picked up at my moms last summer while cleaning up here things (she passed away in August). I knew then that it was a sign from her that it was time I tried it out. She would be proud of her daughter today (oh this just brought tears to my eyes)

Michelle you did a great job for your first try. I have never done one but think I might like to give it a try. I do blankets for project Linus but they are the fleece ones. Hugs, Mary

Thanks Mary,
I think we get intimadated afraid tell ourselves it will be hard but this one was not bad. Of course there is no batting or anything so that makes it easier, maybe this project is a good one to get your feet wet because it is simpler than a normal quilt.
COME ON YOU CAN DO IT,

Michelle, please do remember too to write a letter to go with your quilt. Someone will be able to read it to the child in his or her language! Be sure to include your address also as maybe someday you may get a response!

michemb by michemb 22 Jan 2012

Yes Jan I will do that, and as for the safari,
loved, loved, loved it,and the best part was that I didn't have to kill anything, LOL
