Have you ever had the power go off just as you are almost to the end of a design. I am stitching another bowl. Weather forcast - Possible shower tomorrow - was supposed to be today. Well suddenly it started pouring and the power flicked off and then came straight back on. Naturally the machine switched off as well. Luckily I had written all of the (don't know what you call them) sizes and positions of the design down. Got the design back to where it was positioned and had to press the + to get it back to where it had been when the power went off. This is a tip. Write down the positions of the designs as you stitch them. Hope this makes sense.

Folks, surge protectors are not enough. Please buy at least 1 battery back up system (cost about $40). They are priceless. These will give you a few minutes of power if needed as well as protecting your machines. Both of my computerized machines are plugged into a batterback-up and the computer is plugged into another one (different rooms).

This has happened to me often and then I have to manually go through every stitch until I get back on line. Very inconvenient.**

I learned the hard way, that is why I write the positions down especially when it rains.

If I see there is a storm coming up. I pull out the plugs and close my machines. Glad you could recover your design. Hugs Marie

Think the same thing will happen later today again, but I won't be stitching.

One of the best things about my Ellegante, is that it puts the design into it's memory, and if you have power cut off, when you turn it on, it asks if you want to go back to where you left off! I also have one of the small Disney machines, and you have to go stitch by stitch. What a bother That is.

Love the idea of your Ellegante. Why can't all machines do this?

Get a battery backup power surge thing. If the power goes out, your machine will keep on going for about an hour...enough time to finish or at least come to a stopping spot. You get them in the computer area of the store. I know they are a little bit costly, but well worth it & a LOT cheaper than a new machine that's been zapped by a power surge! There's different prices. Only down side is when the power goes out the thing keeps giving off a beep! I just shut the door to the sewing room. We lose power often due to dumb squirrels chewing the wires! Power goes out with a bang & we say "There's fried squirrel somewhere!" They seem to go after the ones into the transformers!

got one or may be two or three. Husband is a computer wizz kid. and we have got two of most things. but our spare bedroom is full to the door. It is helpful some times.

Gerry, I have to close my door too. For extended outages the beeping can get on every nerve. Wish there was a way to turn off the beep but mine doesn't have it. Marcelle

Luckily this doesn't happen often when I stitch.

thank you for the tip. I learned the hard way to write down postion info. One time I turned off my machine with out thinking because of a knot under the plate... that piece went onto the "pile". A least if it is not a single color design, there is a good chance you can find your way back to stitch point. Live Laugh Download Stitch!

I have done this and wondered "Why did I do that?"

Glad you got back to your design position and that the power outage did not damage your machine. I had a power blink/surge some time back while embroiderying, and it sent my machine to the shop for a few months waiting for a part that got fried. I now have my baby plugged into a battery backup/surge protector like the one on my desktop computer. When not in use the baby is unplugged. I learned the hard way, never can be too careful with our precious equipment!

I like this idea, I have had my power "blink" and thank goodness it did not kill my machine. UPS surge protectors are now on my shopping list. Thanks

Luckily I have a surge protector.

Oh yes, I was about at 40000 stitches in a 60000 design and the power went off. I could have cried, it took me almost 90 minutes to line it back up again but I succeeded. Another time my foot hooked my power cable to my machine and disconnected it. Could not recuperate that one. Now when I am doing a large design, I try to remember to right my coordinates down. Glad you were able to reposition yours,

This was just the side of a small bowl so it wasn't so bad, but I do remember having to throw a bigger piece.

That makes good sense Lyn. Thankfully my Elna's have a power outage protector and always save the design.

Meganne, mine saves the design, but it goes back to the start of the design.

My thunderstorm has the name Felix :o) When he was smaller he once switched out the machine during stitching. I had changed the position of the design by hand in the hoop so I had no chance to get back where I was before. Now a faceless little princess is lying in my stash waiting for a handstitched face (or maybe I'm doing it the lazy way and take my PRYM-permanentmarker ;o).
Greetings, Bettina

Thanks for the tip!! I am glad that you managed to get the design going again!! We often have unexpected power failures so I will definitely remember your advice :)

I don't always remember to write info down, but I did this time.
