Not that my conscience was bother me or anything like that... but I wanted to come back and apologize if my rant (however subdued it was) offended anyone.
I totally understand the need to be mindful of what can or should not be displayed online. I get it, I really and truly do.
But...
When I see blatant Chicken Little-ism in all its glory, it bugs me.
It just seemed to me that teddybear's comments only pointed out the blind grasp of the obvious... something we all know... or should know.
Sorry about that teddybear... I'm just saying how I feel about it. Nothing personal against you in particular... okay?
I have to admit that my dictionaire is striking with "blind grasp" but I can imagine what this should mean.
Like you said: We all SHOULD know!
You can use everything with a good and a bad intention...
Yes, I suppose I went a little euphemistic with 'blind grasp.' I just do not understand what the worry is here in Cute when there is facebook overflowing with family pictures and other personal details.
I stay away from facebook, twitter, myspace or whatever it is called. When you registered on FC they can see whenever you are on another page that has this stupid "I like..."-button and is connected with FB. Did not like this thought...
Egads! I had never thought about the security issues on Cute (or many other places). Out of curiosity, I googled my username. GASP!!! It listed comments here (some to the community, but was private/personal information!), troubleshooting discussions I have held with Microsoft, personal information from a quilting forum (I am NOT happy about that info - it's the registration information!). Oh dear. I'm trying to figure out how to clean that up. Additionally, if you post a picture, folks who know how to examine the details of that object can also lift your 'web address'. So? Well, it's an open invitation for a hacker to come straight to your computer. And, since I posted PC information on the Microsoft site, they know my setup, as well. While it may wear my computer out faster, I'm powering down every time I walk away. I understand secure passwords and use them, but now I'm paranoid. I had no clue!!!!
Well we know from recent experience (last autumn, thereabouts) that the Cute site can be infiltrated by questionable people. Remember the person(s) that posted to certain individuals that wanted to "get to know you better"? I think there were a couple of them, but there may have been only one.
There's 'careful' and then there's 'paranoia.' And 'nery the two shall meet and mingle.
I've been on the internet for 16 years. I met my husband online... and moved from North Carolina to Canada to marry him... that was 14 years and a few months ago and its been the best thing that ever happened to me. However, I'm selective about what info I give out, but I have no problem with giving out my MSN email address in private; or, uploading pictures of me or my loved ones. You certainly don't want to publicly post your physical address outright but who's going to be able to locate your house that could be anywhere in the world? I live in Canada... now come knock on my door. I'll have coffee ready for you when you get here.
Think about what you're asking.
"Can what we put in the public section and freebie section be 'Googled' or 'Searched' for on the web and be available for anyone and everyone to read?"
Seriously? Who would want to 'Google' or 'Search' for someone who has no claim to fame or fortune? I'm not that special... are you? How many embroidery sicko's do you reckon exists?
As I understand it, the 'Public' section is supposed to be reserved for embroidery related topics. And the 'Personal' section is for the howdy-dos, here's my gripe of the day, good mornings, good afternoons, etc, etc, etc.
My 2 cents worth.

Liz I don't know if you have small kids. We had that discussion in the german blogcommunity because somebody discovered that there are tools to search pictures p.e. "girls blond little". Many of the sewing ladies did not post anylonger their kidsclothes weared by their children. Here we have to make an impressum with the complete adress even in a non commercial blog. If you did not live deep in the forest people are able to watch your house on Google Earth. I was accidentially coming up to a page from a person who is collecting pics of little boys in swimsuits (I was just looking for calendersheets to print). There are weird people around and they love the namelessness in the net. One mother with a blog had the problem that somebody wrote comments in the guestbook of their daughters school under her name. Can you imagine how people look at you until somebody is brave enough to tell?
Greetings, Bettina

comments (nasty ones!) in the guestbook of their daughters school under her name. Can you imagine how people look at you until somebody is brave enough to come directly to you? I'm glad you just have good experiences...
Greetings, Bettina
You are quite right. We should be particularly careful about posting email addresses or details about our travels.
I think that you cannot google PERSONAL and DBC. Sometimes I think we germans sound like paranoid but there are also some weird people in the net. I never would post an actual pic of my kids in the public (my avatar is a 5 years old photo) wheter post my mail-ID. Was a little bit shocked about all the nice ladies here that post their mailadress in the post from mops where she offered a embird-tutorial (she wrote that people should send her a PM please). I did not use the same username for all webpages I'm registered cause this allowes to google all your activities in the internet.
I love the family-pics in that post from simplyrosie but I think this should be better put in the PERSONAL-tab.
Greetings, Bettina
How can I search a design in DBC? I tried it sometimes with the number or with the title but it did not work...
Greetings, Bettina
I just googled
'Cuteembroidery.com'+ 'Designs by Cuties' + pincushion
and got my pincushions and Sue's.
Ah Martine I'm still learning about the miracles of google. Never thought of combine two token :o)
yES, I BEEN TRYING TO CHANGE MY USER NAME BUT DOES NOT KNOW HOW...***********
GREAT POINT TO BRING UP....
Good Question. When I use the search facility, I get public and projects... I think. Live Laugh Download Stitch!
this is why i use an alias and put up the photo of the cave woman. i would hate the press to know who i really am and cause a deluge of stalkers
annie in the uk
I agreed, alot of not so nice stuff out there on the net, not all wonderful people like here on cute,
