One of my grandchildren bumped my machine and broke the cover off my USB stick and bent it badly. I assumed it was ruined but tried it just to see and found it still worked fine.

I have to be very careful touching it because it has no cover over the electronics.

If something like that ever happens you might still be able to get designs from it. Just handle it carefully and don't touch the little circuits.

I would not be using that damaged USB in my embroidery machine for fear of doing damage to my embroidery machine. Do back up your designs and transfer these to another source as soon as possible. You really don't want your embroidery machine computer to get damaged. Good luck.**

I would do what the other cuties recommend and transfer your designs. That happened to me once but it was the usb stick in my computer and I went to jiggle it and the contact caused a circut reaction that fried my motherboard in my computer. Sad to say, it cost me dearly.

Hugs,
mj

Make a back up of your designs ASAP! You could lose them all if it gets finicky on you-----
Ask me how I know.......

As others have said take the designs off and put elsewhere or at least get a copy of what is on it. Good Luck

If you can, I'd transfer all of the designs on the stick to something else as quickly as possible and then thhrow the damaged one away.
Fresh starts are usually good.

I have several of them and when I put a design on a USB stick it is only to transfer from one computer to another or to my Quattro for stitching. I actually have my designs backed up on an external hard drive too.

I really wanted to let you all know that all may not be lost if you ONLY have your designs on a USB drive. It could still be possible to salvage them. I do want to stress that no one should rely on a USB alone for their designs. They are very fragile and notoriously unreliable. Everything can fail so always have your designs in at least 2 places or even 3 places if possible.

We have so much money, time and 'treating our embroidery addiction' invested in all our designs it would be devastating to lose them all. Please, don't let that happen to anyone here. There are many ways to have extra copies so pick the easiest for you but do it right away. Don't wait.

Thank you all for reading all this and I hope it helps someone.

My USB-stick is just for the transfer the designs from my mac to my machine. Have them all im my mac and also on a harddrive as backup.
My son broke also a stick and I had less luck: He does not work anylonger :o(

I use my USB stick only to transfer my designs from the computer to my machine. I have all my designs on the computer. on an external hard drive and on 2 sets of cds, one in the house one in a safe place outside the house(just in case of fire)
Maybe that is a bit over the top, but I am rather safe than sorry.

Me, too!

It is not over the top at all. Like you said it is just being safe. That is the best way.

I agree it's not over the top being careful. Your put hours of work and $$ into getting those designs in order. After losing my external hard drive a few weeks ago I don't believe too much is too much when it comes to preserving your designs.

You're lucky you can still access the designs. I'd get a new one asap and make sure I'wouldn't loose them!

I would back up those files as soon as possible. Luckily nothing serious happened.

You are very lucky that it still works. Better get a new one, and copy those files to it so you don't lose them.
