Just to be clear on FSL, you will see designs that are Christmas ornaments or baskets or angels that are not embroidered onto fabric. They start with 2 layers of a fiber looking stabilizer that when it gets wet is dissolves so that all that is left is the thread but it dries stiff because the stabilizer is actually starch. I am going to post of pic of angels that have been sent to me since I have been sick, they are all FSL (free standing lace). They are fun to watch being done and amazing to see after drying.
Hugs, Debra
Kathy, welcome to Cute. I haven't been a member for too long.
The one thing I learned many years ago is that there is no question that shouldn't be asked because someone else may have the same question but are too timid to ask. Your answer may help someone else too.
Enjoy you machine but be aware that embroidery is addictive.
Welcome to Cute. You will learn so much here. Sarah
Welcome, i see you have good answers! This is an excellent site!
Welcome to the group. This is the best place to learn about your machine/ and embroidery.Just don't get overwhelmed by all the stabilizers out there. You'll soon discover you that one -two kinds is all you only need.
Oh NO! I'm still trying to figure out which ones they are - LOL - and I've been trying now for three years! Welcome!
Kathy, welcome to the Cute family. There are so many wonderful people here and they are so willing to help with whatever they can. Hugs, Judy
Welcome to Cute - we were all beginners at one time. Ask away. Sarah.
Welcome to Cute. You have gotten the answer to your questions already. Let me add that their is never a dumb question. When I started with Cute my fist post was also about the flowers. Just one thing. When asking a embroidery question start in Public with your post. You will get more answers. Personal is more non embroidery topics and isn't read by a lot of the members. Hope to see a lot of you.
P.S. All I know about embroidery I learned here. This is the most helpful bunch of people.
Welcome to you! I see you have answers to your questions from other Cuties. I will just give you another flower. There are several Cuties that have many thousands of flowers. Truly incredible numbers. Your flower numbers will grow rapidly.
Good luck with your new embroidery endeavor. You will get answers to your questions very quickly here so just ask.
Welcome to the 'Cute' family.

Welcome kathy, just keep asking questions , its the only way to learn how to use your machine,we were all learner at some stage .
Well, you can't do anything with flowers except to give them or receive them. They are thank yous and signs of friendship from the other Cuties.....
Ask questions, give flowers and welcome to the group.
And not FSL is short for letting you know that a design is not free standing lace, so if you sew it on WSS (water soluble stabilizer) it will fall apart!
Kathy, WELOCME to the CUTE family - I see you have your answers. I hope you enjoy the site.
Welcome to cute. You will love it here. Hope you have lots of fun. DeVon
The flowers are given to members when the posts on cuteis or when you comment or post on some elses post, it is green at first and when someone clicks on it, it will change to orange and that means you have gathered another flower.
FSL means free standing lace, which is designs embroidery on water soluble stabilizer and once the design is completed, put in water it will stand on its on. WELCOME TO CUTE AND IF YOU DONT MIND, TELL US WHERE YOU ARE FROM,
I have just given you another flower,
hugs
Michelle
I'm from the Southern lower corner of Oregon. We are about 15 miles from the California border. I think I am going to like being a part of Cute Embroidery.
Welcome to Cute. It used to be that every time you visited you had a flower. Now you get flowers by joining in the chatting and all the other mad things that go on here. What machine do you have, I have a Brother Galaxie 3000 and a PR 650. Not fsl is not free standing lace
I got a Burnette Bernina. I'm told it is a OK beginner machine. Hope that will prove to be sure. I guess next I will have to learn about stabelizer, threads and special needles. Besides having to ask lots of question of you busy designers is there somewhere I might find info? Sorry, I've been 2 weeks now trying to get up the nerve to ask question in an open forum. Feeling a bit stupid I must say. Thanks for your help. Kathy
