I think one of the biggest differences between a friend and a best friend is in the listening. A best friend really listens and hears what you are telling her - with her heart.

My dear MIL used to say she liked to allow her friends one big fault and two little faults, and it usually didn't get past the little faults. I'm grateful my friends allow me some faults!

Amen, Jan! If one has several good friends, he is lucky; if he has ONE TRUE friend, he is BLESSED!
Hugs,
Angel

I am truly blessed with lots of very good friends, and even some I've never actually met before! Like you Cuties! Isn't it weird to refer to each other as friends, when we have never met, or even heard each others' voices! Yet, Angel, you ARE my friend :-) by all the definitions of "friend!"

Hi Jo, I've been wondering about people like us, who can bond so easily with "strangers" on line. Not everyone can do it. It probably sounds strange to most people, that we would refer to people we only know on line as friends. Have you ever wondered about these things?

A best friend will hear and not just bounce it back to you but really understand and try to empathize. Some people can not get out side themselves it does not make them bad friends just incapable friends.

I think you are so right when you say "incapable" friends. I'm thinking of one in particular, she is a very good friend in every other way, but she just doesn't seem to have the listening gene - he he. It's like some people are just incapable of stepping into someone else's shoes to see what life is like from that different perspective..

stepping into another person's shoes, or situation and understanding a different point of view. She just doesn't seem capable of doing it. Love her anyway :-)

You do, Chris. You listen and hear the words left unspoken.
