Just reading old posts and came across yours. Did I understand you correctly that you have a Pfaff 2140 embroidery machine? Did I also understand your machine can resize a design up or down? I have a Pfaff 2140 and I have no idea how you do this - would really like to learn. If I understood correctly can you send me a PM and I will give you my email address so you can explain this to me further. Thank you for your help.
Your user manual should have a paragraph on resizing designs - I don't have a Pfaff, but every machine I own (including the simple Brother 190D) has that feature.
That's a little tricky question. Large designs need to be split into two. If you have the Pfaff software (3D,4D,or 5D)the program can attempt to do the best split, or you can give a try on your own. Real complicated designs are tough to split and sometime you still have trouble getting both sides to line up due to pull during the first half of the embroidery. I have found that it's easier for me to split the design myself, use the 140x225 hoop, and then reposition for the second side. It does take a little practice.
So are you saying that if I attempt to sew a design that won't fit the hoop, then it will just sew what will fit? Then I should be able to line up second bit?? Thankyou
Not quite understanding, but will explain further, however, do you have the software as mentioned above? You cannot do it without the software, because you can only send to the machine what will fit in the hoop. If the design is larger than the hoop it won't transfer.
Drop me a PM with your e-mail address and I will send you photos of the necessary steps. I use the 2144 and 4D software so we are on the same page.
First, there are no dumb questions!
A design can be stitched out in any hoop it fits in. So you could do a 2X2 design in a 6X9 hoop. However, it is best to use the hoop that is closest to the design size.
I have a Bernina machine that resizes very easily. So I can take a small design and enlarge it to the size I need it to be. The machine automatically adds or reduces the number of stitches so everything is still correct.
I hope this answers your question. ~ Nancy
Yes Nancy, my 2140 will do the same thing, can resize up and down about 20%. But I was thinking more of the really large designs which normally are split-I haven't got many of these yet.
