Mary, my hairdresser told me the mother of groom should always wear beige and keep her mouth shut. hahahaha

I read that some where but I do not like beige well I think I will go for a burgundy or a burnt orange, or maybe a dark beige? I still do not know, I need to make up my mind I love the red and black purse in projects, I think I have that design it is a good idea to used the same fabric and make a purse like that. I am, specially because I am not giving too much help economically speaking . than you.

Mary, thrilled that you have something to look forward to. This is difficult for me to suggest any colours as I steer clear away from browns/ greens/ yellows. What about a burnt orange? I think it really depends on what suits you. My personal feeling would be to go lighter. Have I added to the confusion? Hugs Sarah.

As it is an Autumn (fall) wedding I would simply choose the Autumn colour that suits you best. Any Autumn colour will go well with the brown and green.

How about gold? It looks so nice on quilts - LOL! I think you need to pick the color that gives you the most confidence, actually. What color makes your eyes shine and your face glow? Take your best friend with you to go shopping, one who will really tell you if something looks good or bad - he he. Pick what YOU like and will feel good wearing and then treat yourself to the accessories that say WOW!

Considering the brown and hunter green colors, I would go with either a rust or yellow shade. Just depends on which looks best on you!! Congratulations!

Have you considered a soft, pinkish maroon or a soft, apple green?
With the others in darker colours I think you'd look stunning in a softer, lighter shade of whatever suits you best.
Protocol can dictate a lot of heartache really and I think it's always best to wear what looks good on you so that you feel your best.

What is your favourite colour? Or should I say what colour looks best on you? With all the rest of the wedding party in dark shades you could wear a lighter, softer shade of a fall colour.

The groom's mother doesn't have to buy something in the same shade, but it should have the skirt and sleeve length. Don't see any reason why you can't wear hunter green if that's your color. See if you could find something that would blend with the shade she has chosen. I wish you the best in finding the perfect dress as our son is planning a late May wedding and I still have no details except they plan a New York City wedding where they plan to live after he graduates.

Me too. For my son's wedding I chose an outfit that had a longish jacket over the dress and I felt a little taller, little slimmer. Just don't worry about your body that day. You are who you are, the wonderful mother of the groom, and enjoy yourself! It's your day too!

Burgundy might also compliment the brown and green.

First off what colors look best on you? This your sons special day, you want to look your best. Don't wear yellow if it makes you look ill, same goes for any color. Once I know what colors look best on you than I can give you a suggestion. I look best in winter and autumn colors. Yellow looks me look deathly ill, so even if it where the last color on earth I would not wear it.
I realize I did not answer your question with a traditional answer, but I hope I did help you in finding a color that looks great one you.

Thank you for the ideas, hope more will come up, I read the mother of the bride gets to pick first my luck because I was thinking hunter green I love it but now I can not use it. I like the ark blue idea, this is going to be a fall wedding so I need to think of fall colors, maybe a dark yellow????

I had a fall wedding and used brown, rust(hint of red), green and gold. Think of the color of leaves during the autumn/fall.

clawton by clawton 05 Mar 2012

PS what about a something in the tan or beige range?

Blue! Blue goes great with the browns, and compliments the green. Make it a deep blue, maybe satin, and you will look beautiful and get lots of compliments. Everyone looks good in blue. Just my opinion :-)

I agree with Lucy--a butter yellow is pretty, if your complexion is right for it (my red-headed daughter looks terrible in it) or a pretty leaf green. You can even use brown accents with the leaf green. A golden tan with green accents would also work.
