wow! U never get to old to learn things & I've just learned a few from answ. to your ques. minn. thanks 4 asking. there's been a few scraps I've had ques. about n past with no way of finding out. *4U
Minni, I will "share" a brand new smoke detector and kids cookbook with you in exchange for Janome 11000. But really, is your daughter selling one??? I am not fussy about the quilt, it was a question put to me and went with general suggestions. I am not a "poly-snob" but cotton is probably best as it will be consistent for the whole quilt and what most of us generally use. If I get any sqaures with burnt bits on them, I will know they are from you. LOL.
Daughter not selling one I told her that if she didn't use her machine (not as good as mine ) I found someone that wanted me to leave mine to them in my will ( bite)she said noway that machine is going to buy me(her) a new car . a poly snob I like that .( I knew that but just had to say that I should put LOL)and your kids could cook better than me.and burnt squares are good ,now your a burnt snob
I have safely done this test with a very small piece of fabric, just an inch or so long by about a quarter inch. Hold the piece with a tweezer, easiest if you have the kind you have to squeeze to open or a plyers, and light with a match. For safely, do over an ash tray or stainless steel sink. 100% cotton will leave an ash that completely crumbles, a synthetic or blend will leave behind a bead of plastic-like substance.
Here is a good site:

these ladies haven't even seen my cooking and they know I burn it . OHS is even coming to the sewing room . I tryed it it works thanks
I am lost. Why do you need to know the fiber content? Is it for quilting perhaps?
Miss Minni, rather than risk my inheritance and burn house and 11000 down, try scrunching it in your hand. Cotton wrinkles really badly, synthetics don't wrinkle as badly and you can sort of shake the wrinkles out. This is handy if you are in Spotlight and don't want to get done for acts of terrorism by taking matches into the store and setting the stock alight.
well Libby baby girl said she will sell the machine to you so she can have a new car. going price then add some because I owned it that makes it one of a kind.told you she wouldn't want it. and Nonna a lot of the spotlights need a match and so do some staff. but I wish I had a spotlight close
Looks like you already have a good answer, but nothing prevents me from giving you a flower. * for U
Thanks minnieb, Sometimes I just can't be sure, so now I light a match. *****'s 2 yall
you be careful. *4U
you are getting to know me well
I am a big girl now lets see if I can set the smoke alarms off
I do every time I cook
purplex is right if it burns to ash with a similar smell to burning paper it is cotton
when it is burning watch that the edge doesn't bubble this would indicate that it has a synthetic fibre mixed in wth the cotton
