Many years ago a little neighbor girl had a constant cough that wouldn't go away, finally a doctor put a scope down into her lungs and way down in there they found a cookie crumb stuck. They removed it and she was fine. Now she is in college, oh my how the time flies!
oh that must be a scary, anxious experience, Happy everything is okay now. Hugs Gerry
I am so happy to hear all is well, although you probally weren't the only one afraid.Ben probally was too. I have spasms of the esophagus and it is very scary. I now have a medicine that I place under the tounge to melt to stop the spasm. when it happened before, each time I thought that I would choke to death.Really glad you got help.Give Ben a hug and here is another for you-Toogie
Thanks, Toogie, we both needed those! Your spasms sound really scary! I get vocal chord spasms as a reaction to laughing - no kidding. I have to control how I laugh - that's a real bummer - he he
OMG, Jan, next time I say that to Jim, I will think of Ben.....I am always telling him he inhaled his food.......I bit a tootsie pop off the stick and sucked it into the back of my throat and couldn't breathe...my mom hit me between the shoulder blades and it shot out like a bullet...I was about 25 yrs old and in a grocery store....boy, was that embarrassing!!!!!!! Glad Ben recovered from his scare..
Don't inhale food should be our motto around here - and at your place too :-) I love Tootsie Roll Pops - I bet you always think of that. Do you ever have them now? I love the cherry ones. Good thing your mom acted fast!
What a fright you must have had, and poor Ben as well!! I am so glad that everything is OK for him and that he is doing fine.****Hugs and lots of love.
Choking is the number 1 cause of death for kids with Ben's syndrome. It was scary! Thanks for the hugs.
Dear Jan, How scary that must have been! I am so glad to know that Ben is okay now! WOW! I can't imagine! Hugs and blessings! I will be keeping you and Ben in my prayers;>) How is the puppy doing?
Jan,
I am so glad Ben is alright! That is scary and dangerous to have the airways restricted! I love
cornbread, but the crumbs close off my tubes like that. I am now afraid to eat it, as during the three occasions it happened, I thought I was smothering and going unconscious. Luckily, it went on down, after a couple of minutes of gagging and getting no air. Give Ben a big hug for me!
Angel
I am so glad he coughed it up! How scary that is! so glad the rescue was there and not needed. Yeah! Ben, how is training going?
I am glad he is ok I get choked on things and it is scatey .
Lena
thanks god he's fine again. I can understand your situation that moment (and afterwards) you see the child having problems, and that time it just seems soo long before the rescue people arrive.
Jan I'm glad that everything went out again. When my kids do something like that I turn them upside-down but Ben is a little bit too big for that.
Felix had put one of those metall-bowls from Geomaxx in his nose a few weeks ago. Lucky enough I could pull it out with the magnetic-sticks. But my first try with the fingers wasn't very successful cause his nose is still tiny (compared to my fingers).
Greetings, Bettina
How great you thought of the magnetic sticks - he he. I've heard of kids stuffing their noses full of peas before, but not metal bowls! That's scary too! Ben weighs 150 pounds so I could never get him upside down - he he.
This is as worrying time for both you and little Ben. Lucky for you the paramedics were available.
So glad to read Ben is doing fine now. Quite a scare for you I'm sure. Now to get the lab dog trained to help Ben stay safe.
Thank goodness Ben is OK. What a terrible fright you must have had. When my eldest GS was about 8 mths old (now 17yrs) I gave him a piece of toast with marmite on. He started choking. I held him upside down and just shook him. Never again have I given any of my grand children toast. It frightened me so much as he was in my care. Hugs Sarah.
Oh, it is soooo scary, isn't it! What is marmite? Is it like veggemite? Peanut butter can be bad too. Choking has killed some of the kids with one of Ben's syndromes, and he does have food go down the wrong way, so I was really concerned.
It took all day, since I had to take him over to see his doctor, as a followup later on. I ran the road then for about 3 hours to get it all done. Thanks for your concern :-)
Oh my goodness, I'm glad to hear he is okay. I think little Ben is going to give you a few more gray hairs LOL. My hubby gave his mom lots of them but she doesn't remember and now its all fond memories.
Hugs
Linda aka Bumblebee
Thanks, Linda. I have plenty of those gray hairs already! I'm even thinking of quitting coloring them.....
Ben isn't too little anymore. He's now 24 years old, is 5 foot 2 inches tall, and weighs right at 150 pounds. He started out 5 lbs 5 oz. For a long time we didn't think he would ever gain any weight.
Oh! dear Jan, I am so glad Ben coughed up that brownie! I'm always wary of children putting things into their mouths. When Amy was a baby Dana put a 2cent coin in her mouth to try and stop her crying. I had to tip her upside down and pull it out with my finger - not a thing I want to have to do again. Amy was only about 6 months old!!!!! Love Chris
Oh MY! That was really bad and a close call, Chris! Choking is so hard and it happens quickly, without warning. Isn't that so scary?!?!?
Those brownies were terrible anyway. We live at such a high elevation, I can't make them. They are either hard as a rock, or oooey gooey. They weren't worth choking over :-)
So Glad all is well, And that you had a quick response.
Give yourself and Ben a Hug Fom Bev
