Have been wondering about this as well. Glad you have asked the question.
The first time I made a inthehoop design with a zip I was worried about sewing over the zip. BUT I slowed my machine down and took care and it was fine. I was told only use a nylon zip and it has to be larger than the design. Its a great way of using up unwanted nylon zips
I'm so glad you asked that question. I was worried that even with a nylon zip my machine might not want to sew over the teeth even if I slowed it right down where the zip was. This information will give me the courage to tackle a zip project.
AlmaG.
I use a zipper as wide as my hoop. That way I know it will be a good fit. About 5-6" for these lovely little bags.
Your needle won't break unless you hit the metal pull tab or end of zipper. Always use a nylon zipper never metal.
thank you,I didn't realise that I had to sew over the zip,I've never made ith bags before,so does this apply ingeneral?
The zip needs to be nylon and long enough to clear both edges of the design. You actually stitch over the teeth, leaving the ends beyond the design. These get cut off. If you have a zip that is a bit short you might hit the metal stop at the end with the needle.
Hope that makes sense!
Yes thanks Sue, and many thanks for your lovely ITHoop purses. I will have to make one for sure now after reading the answers to lesleyann's question. Shirley
