I usually embroider firts, and then stipple with the batting attached. Then finish my quilt. Hope you had a good night's rest.****
I say it depends..but, I usually embroidery the filled design first...layer quilt top, then go back and add stippling, outlines, redwork borders, etc. Usually I do all of the linework type stitches once the quilt has been layered together. The Baby Lock Ellisimo makes this a breeze with the camera feature. It scans the quilt in the hoop and you can place your linework design exactly where you need it to be...LOVE IT!
I think you are asking if you do the stipple stitches --- then embroider your design over the top of the stipple?
I've wondered the same thing and would like to know the answer.
MJDG
When I did my Monkey blocks, I had a stipple design and I added each letter to the stipple design as one design. I than hooped Warm & natural batting and my main material together, I then embroidered my design so that the stipple and alpha was all one design. I haven't had time to put it together yet, but I like the results of the way it turned out. If you have any questions, I'll try to answer them for you. Have fun with it.
Mary Ann
If I understand this right Mary Ann your design was not thru to your backing only on the top material and batting...is this right ?
Correct, My batting and top material was hooped. Then designs embroidered. The stipple packs the batting down, so when I will trim my blocks to the size I want, I will add sashing stips, add a full layer of warm & natural, and add the backing. The only quilting I will do is stitch in the ditch around all sashing strips and borders. HTH
Cut off again GRRRRRR... The only quilting I will do is stitch in the ditch around sashings and borders. HTH
depends on what it is for, something like a coaster is done either way, myself on a quilt I would have the quilting done after the designs was on! A wallhanging me ...probably the same as a quilt but I have seen it done the other way too.
I do red work as a quilting. I do embroidery or applique before quilting.
If the lovely design is dense, I would Embroider it first so there is only one layer of fabric.
Then do the sandwich.
Also to consider The quilting must not sew across the top of the design. So treat each differently.
Some lovely designs can also stitch on top of pre-quilted (lines) fabric.
A good trick The backing is added after all is embroidered, then the stiching does not show.
Hope I am helping your query?
Happy quilting!
The answer is, "it depends". If you want your embroidery to show on the back of the quilt, then you can embroider after the quilt is done. If you do not want the back of the emb to show, then do the emb first and then build your quilt sandwich and quilt. If both are going to show, then I would do the embroidery first, so then you know that you have left enough room for the embroidery. I hope this answers your question. Sleep well!
I don't know whether there's a set order.
I usually quilt afterwards as I use my tests in quilts.
But I noticed that the sets by Eilene Roche from dzgns quilt first, applique or stitch later.
I cant help sorry but I will send it to the top for someone else
I am sorry if my question does not make a connection ~~~ I am tired and should be in bed ~~~ i will try again tomorrow ~~~ good night ~~
